For native Japanese citizens this is a fantastic hotel. You can tell the quality of service they are provided by watching their interactions with hotel staff.
As an international traveler, unfortunately I cannot recommend this hotel to my friends and family, nor anyone traveling to Kyoto from overseas. The condition of the room was worn, mouldy vents, and overall outdated. We selected a superior double room with two beds. I regret that I was very uncomfortable with the sleeping conditions.
The shuttle bus catered mainly to native travellers going to and from the station for their conveniency, all the while asking my parter and I to wait even though we were at the front of the Que waiting to board. It is to my understanding, first come first served. This is just one of the many examples where my partner and I, did not feel welcome or comfortable. There seems to be a strong prejudice towards travellers despite our efforts to protect traditional Japanese and Kyoto customs.
Not exclusive to this hotel, the general theme of Kyoto has been, unfortunately, bias on some occasions, and even hostile on a separate occasion to overseas visitors. I regret to say that I will not be traveling to this hotel nor Kyoto in the foreseeable future.
