Booked a stay as it stated a 24 hour check-in. I arrived at 23:00 and was told 'you're lucky we still have a room for you'. I stated that I had booked/paid online but was again told that I was lucky to get a room at this time of night?! The room wasn't actually in the guest house, but in the 'annexe', 200m away. I was told that the parking was behind the annexe, and the access was so narrow that I'd have to 'tuck in my wing mirrors' to get down there. Arriving at the annexe I attempted to drive down this narrow gap, but could not fit. I then had to blindly reverse back into the road - luckily no traffic collided with me as I did so. I drove back to the guest house, where I was told 'we get much longer vehicles than yours down there' - I explained that it was a width issue, and was met with a blank stare. It was then suggested that I could actually just park in front of the guest house, and walk the 200m back to the annexe...
After walking back with my luggage, i opened the front door and noticed that the hallway floor was just sections of carpet laid down, with bare concrete showing through in places. I opened the door to my room I was met with a musky, pungent aroma, making me think the cleaning was not particularly elaborate. This was confirmed by the stained sheets, layer of dust on the surfaces, and collection of cobwebs and dead spiders. The shower was stuck on boiling hot and the wall light didn't work. A screaming baby kept me awake due to the awful sound insulation.
