The service was wonderful. Cozy and lovely facility. They had kayak rentals which was the highlight of my trip! Also the staff (Trine) and her father went out of their way to help us when my son experienced a medical emergency. All the necessary calls were made to schedule a dr visit and we were even driven to and from the medical facility. We will never forget their kindness.

The Leikanger Fjord Hotel is a dated property which seems to primarily cater to tour groups. While they have attempted to update portions of the hotel, some areas are obviously worn. For instance, in our room the bathroom was recently remodeled, but the sleeping area looked like circa 1970s, complete with a wall-mounted but non-functional radio! There are virtually NO other eating options in Leikanger other than the hotel, which served a mediocre typical Norwegian buffet. Adequate and reasonable for the cost, but certainly not worth repeating. If you don’t have a car, there is virtually nothing to do in Leikanger or its vicinity. While bus traffic going east is fairly frequent, return trips westward are few and far between, making careful logistical planning paramount. Busses are luxurious and remarkably inexpensive - from Leikanger to Balestrand including a ferry ride was only NEK 80 for the 1.5 hour trip! Renting a car and driving the virtually one lane roads on the shore of the Sognefjord is not recommended for the faint of heart, sharing the road with said busses, trucks, farm vehicles, etc. requires pulling over in turnouts when the road narrows at critical curves. In short, DO NOT stay in Leikanger unless you are fully cognizant of your transportation and dining options. Sogndal (a larger community to the east) or Balestrand to the west are better options.

Great view over the fjord
We had an amazing room with the best view over the fjord. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was ok, not too much to choose about. Good location on our way from Bergen to Lom.

Pleasantly surprised
Cozy old-fashioned hotel with beach access. We stayed in the “cabin” part of the hotel, where the rooms weren’t fancy, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Outside there’s a nice seating area with beautiful views of the fjord. The restaurant also served great food!

En liten perle ved Sognefjorden.
Et fantastisk sted å være om det er bra vær - noe det var. Jeg vet fra tidligere opphold at romstandarden er ulik - her kan man forhøre seg om dette er viktig og heller betale for et oppgradert rom. Flott atmosfære i et historisk bygg. Gamledelen av hotellet er veldig flott. Egen rosehage med historiske roser som dufter! Enestående bademuligheter på sandgrunn. God mat. Hyggelig betjening. Ferske servitører som nok bør få veiledning. Hurtigbåtkai rett ved siden av - her bør feks Bergensere hive seg på båten og ta turen inn til vakre Sogn. Det er veldig fint å spasere bortover Strandgaten og se på de fine husene og hagene. Skulle ønske det var flere lokale råvarer feks drikke på menyen. Feks lokalt øl a la Kinn, sider fra Balholm eller andre produsenter i området - der er å ta av:) Pluss for utleie kajakk/SUP.

Hotellet ligger ubeskriveligt smukt, det udstråler klassisk stil og mange års traditioner. Desværre virkede værelset lidt ‘træt’, og rengøringen var påfaldende dårlig. Vi fandt en sok, da vi flyttede lænestolen, og i badeværelset var der hår i brusekabinens afløb. Da vi skubbede sengene sammen, var der tydeligvis ikke støvsuget under sengen i lang tid, støvet stod op om ørerne på os.

Alte und verschlissene Bausubstanz. Zimmer unkonfortabel und zu klein, zu kleines Bad, kaum Platz für Klamotten, zu wenig Steckdosen. Dafür war das Abendessen sehr gut (Fisch a la carte) aber das Frühstück dürftig.
