Probably last quality accommodation in that area
Unfortunately, all surrounding is in bad state, most of hotels and services are bankrupted and many of them already getting destroyed, all surrounding is like a ghost town. But that is what Smile Resort owner can not impact. All what she can do she does very well, accommodation is nice, good managed, very hostile owner.

Stayed at a room right in front of the stairway. Checked in a bit late and didn't have a chance to ask. Seems this room doesn't have heating so it was pretty chilly at night although the floor wasn't that cold. Should ask the owner for a heater if you find the room cold.

If you're looking for a clean, quiet place to rest up for/recover from a big hike at Seoraksan National Park, you can't do better than this for the money. It's certainly no-frills, but the proprietor is kind and easy-going, the room was spotless, the water is hot and pressure high, and you're minutes from the most popular entrance to the park. Breakfast is simple but filling - toast, cereal, and freshly steamed rice cakes with fresh coffee or tea. There are hot water kettles and filtered water refill stations on each floor. The beds are quite firm, but we slept comfortably. A note on the area: The bus schedule can be a little confusing, but we never had to wait more than 15 minutes for one. This isn't a popular stop on the bus route, so just make sure to stay close to the road and keep an eye out so you can wave to the driver, otherwise it may fly past! It almost passed us on our trip into the park, but I ran after it waving and it stopped as soon as the driver saw me. The surrounding area is a bit eerie - many of the neighboring properties look to have been reclaimed by nature decades ago, but it did not feel unsafe. If you're into urban exploring, this may even be a plus for you! There is a 24 hour market with the usual packaged convenience foods a couple blocks away on the main road, as well as several active restaurants that appear to be kept open by tour bus lunch breaks. All in all, everything we needed and a great value!

Homey style guesthouse not too far from Mt. Seorak
Location is about 30 mins walk/5-10 mins bus ride from entrance of Mt. Seorak which is great. There's a bus stop less than 5 mins walk from the guesthouse. From Sokcho Bus Terminal, take bus 7/7-1 to Arcade Stop (if not mistaken), the bus stop is right in front of the Winter Olympic Mascots' statues. Take the same bus to get to Mt. Seorak, it starts running from 5.30 am. We arrived late at night whilst it was raining and the lady owner waited for us, she upgraded us from double room to family room. It was a really kind gesture and we were really grateful after a long day of travelling! Guesthouse a little run down but room and toilet were spacious and kept clean. Hot shower with good water pressure. Tiny towels provided but sufficient for us. Hairdryer also provided. TV worked well. There's water dispenser and microwave at the hallway. Simple breakfast of bread and jam prepared for us but make sure to wash up after yourselves. Overall, will definitely stay again!

Charming and cheap
This was just what I wanted and expected from the online description: Charming, cheap, and convenient to Seoraksan. Not the hotel's fault, but: I was there the last weekend of April and the whole area was pretty dead. Most restaurants closed, etc. I had seen reviews saying that in winter it was like that, but I wasn't expecting it in the middle of spring.

Great hostel close to Seoraksan National Park
I really enjoyed my stay at Goodstay Smile Guesthouse! The staff was extremely friendly, the breakfast was very good, rooms were clean, and we had everything we needed! Furthermore, the location is excellent if you want to hike in Seoraksan National Park, or visit Sokcho (direct bus line). Thank you very much for you hospitality!

Great hotel!
This is a great place to stay near Seoraksan. It is far away from Sokcho, but near the mountain if you are looking to go hiking. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop that takes you to Seoraksan or back to Sokcho.. The room was clean, the bathroom was nice. I would recommend this hotel.

Smile Guest House close to Seoraksan
The Smile Guest House was a decent place for our needs; we stayed for two weekend nights, Friday & Saturday. It is a nice place to stay if your plan is to not really be there, but be hiking or sight seeing. If staying multiple nights consider nicer accommodations. With this review consider that I am not a particularly fussy person as I do not really plan my vacation around the hotel. However if you are or have a high-maintenance spouse/friend then you will have to bare with some complaining. CONS: Like most Korean beds, it is rock hard! If you're wiped out and have been hiking all day then you will sleep great. There was no shower curtain in the bathtub so water gets all over the bathroom floor. Shower water had two options: warm with no pressure or ice cold with pressure. Koreans love drying off with a hand towel, so no normal sized towels. PROS: There was fridge. A/C, but it is hidden behind the blind in a box, which we discovered 30 minutes before checking out. A/C is not necessary as the cool mountain air is nice with the window open. Microwaves in the hall. The owner was super nice and spoke great English. Free breakfast, but it was sparse, don't expect much. Plus you have to clean your own bowl, which is fine, but I don't trust the previous guest cleaning the bowl. The price is great at only ₩27,000 a night. Only two bus stops away from Seoraksan so really close. A mini-mart and restaurants close by as well. Only 10-14 minutes from the beach by bus. Overall a 3.
