Almost nothing can take away the view and the surrounding nature. Salt Pond Beach is one of the most beautiful places I have encountered, and I am fairly well-traveled. The biggest issue with the camp is that it is extremely unstaffed and not at all well-organized. Our arrival came as a complete surprise to the staff, although I emailed them directly with our arrival time as instructed. Then, there was a major mismatch between the description of the cabin on Expedia and what they actually had to offer. Apparently, we had booked a tent, although the picture and description were of a villa and an all-inclusive stay. The staff person did manage to give us something more aligned with what I thought we booked - for that, I am grateful.
I went to Saint John's not to be catered to but to explore nature, as I have done in Africa, Hymalical, Mexico, and other places. I am very used to lodge or camp conditions. The biggest difference was, in every other place I went, whether they had air conditioning, or not or I slept in a tent, on a cot, or on the ground, was that I felt welcome - that the lodge was happy to have me there. I did not feel that here.
That said, the nature was astounding. We had a nice hardy hike up to see petroglyphs and managed to carry a clear-bottomed kayak from the camp down the hill to the bay. The bay is so peaceful, like an open aquarium teaming with life.
