Beach Front on Secluded Bay...see our video

(Click on our video on the left) My condo, located on the beautiful unspoiled north shore, is just 15 minutes from the airport; although it seems much further, it is by no means your typical Caribbean beachfront condo. The unit is 1,100 sq ft, so there’s plenty of room, and you are 50 feet from the surf! The sound is incredible, especially while lying in bed. This is by far the best unit in the complex because of the location, view, size, and it was just remodeled. The hurricanes hit us hard, and the unit directly below my unit is still boarded up and not occupied. My unit is fully repaired/restored. The exterior pictures listed were taken Jan 2019.
There are 32 units in total, and all but the damaged units are lived in year-round by its inhabitants. You will likely be the only vacationers. All the neighbors know each other and are very friendly. Most will realize you are staying in our place, so don’t be shy asking for directions or a beer. This is not a resort, but absolutely feels like a sanctuary or retreat. There are wild chickens and roosters, as well as the occasional iguana running around. Don’t worry they all get along fine with each other. Well kept but not manicured, nothing feels forced. This is island living. It’s all natural.

The beach, 50 feet from our living room, is usually deserted, as everyone living there in Dorothea is at work. Dorothea Beach is number 13 in Islands this Week. https://virginislandsthisweek.com/st-thomas/st-thomas-beaches/beaches_on_st_thomas/. If you want to hike to another beautiful quiet, deserted beach where there are no buildings or anything but white sand, you can hike to Neltjeberg (pr. nelteeberg). It’s a little less than a half a mile walk on a spectacular forest trail that includes an ocean cliff section directly adjacent to the property. It’s a local’s favorite, deserted most weekdays. If you want something more traditional with two restaurant beach bars Hull Bay is the next beach east of of us. It's about a 5-minute drive from Dorothea. There are 53 other public beaches. Typical this is not.

It’s a small island so everything is close, including the ferries to St John, Tortolla, Virgin Gorda and many others. Day trips are easy and inexpensive. We provide beach towels and coolers for your use.

One more thing, if a Calico cat, or any of the other community cats come by for breakfast, there is food in a bucket for them, and please keep the water fresh. in the foot bath fresh.

Best place ever!!!
I am so in love with this place! Jeff, who owns it and Debbie who manages it are the nicest most helpful people ever! This was exactly as described and having all of the cats and dogs and other various animals around was the most spectacular part. The location is absolutely excellent, the people that live in the area you’re staying is so quiet and so sweet, and so nice all of them! It is the most peaceful place I have ever stayed, and I will return many times. I have a bunch of dogs and cats of my own, but I fell in love with all of the ones that were there, and we fed them, and snuggled with them, and loved on them the whole time! They are so well taken care of and Debra knows every knot And Spot on every animal there! Usually an island I leave sad because I know I’m leaving animals and not the best shape, but that is not the case On St Thomas! The Humane Society is fantastic and a recommended donation while you’re there, but the folks that live at Dorothea Bay Love people and animals and it shows! It is heaven, and I don’t know how else to explain it. But if you love animals, you love, laid-back, and you love a really nice place with the most awesome view, and the most special bay, please stay there! You can’t swim every day, but when you can, it is glorious! Can’t recommend enough. I just want to cry writing this, because I’m not ready to leave!

Live Amongst the Locals!
We had a lovely time at this property for the week we stayed! Our host was very open about the small and private community this rental is at - it’s full of local people with local jobs and families, who were all so kind and helpful and a joy to have around us. The recent hurricanes have done a bit of damage to some of the properties around us, but we were expecting to see that. Our rental was clean and stocked with everything we could have needed - and our host was very responsive when we were in contact about our flight changes. There was not a better view on the whole island than from the porch of this rental! We are adventurers who were not looking for a “resort style” rental and we were very happy with our choice!

Beautiful view with more remote location
To stay here you have to have a rental car. The roads are no joke on St Thomas! We loved staying here in this spacious second floor condo, where you leave the door unlocked all day. Most places were a 15-25 minute drive away. We loved the sound of the waves all night and the starry night sky. It was so nice to have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and to make breakfast each morning before heading out. We loved all of the animals on the property and fed the kitties all the time. The beach at these condos isn’t really swimmable, but you can hike to a beautiful secluded beach just over the hill via a path. If you like outdoors and hiking you would love this option. We would come back here again. If you are a high maintenance person, or do not like animals, this might not be your kind of place, but if you like the idea of staying in a peaceful location with super friendly locals and neighbors, away from the hustle and bustle of town, you should give it a try!

Holy cow!
We’ve found our favorite place! The hike to the cliff, the hike to the beaches, just listening to the ocean right there feet from our window every single night. It cannot be beat! The sweet cats and the dogs, who we pretended were family in photo shoots, were the best. The environment jibed with us completely. Well done! PERFECT!

Riddled with cats
There are about 26 cats roaming around the property. They come all up the steps and on to the balcony and won’t leave you alone trying to get into the property. They obviously go in frequently, Do not come here if you have an allergy to cats. The description of the property and local “wildlife” is totally misleading.

We had a great family vacation. The house is literally on the beach. We opened the windows and listened to the the waves crashing. Only regret is that we didn't have more time to sit by the ocean and snorkel in the bay.

Live local and love it
Chose this place as we wanted a less resort feel and wanted to experience the island as if we live there. Got what we expected as we drove up things were much less manicured and the buildings themselves (from the outside) showed the wear and tear from past storms. When we got inside, however the view and sound of waves did Not disappoint. inside was nicely appointed with plenty of supplies including beach chairs, etc. Neighbors were very friendly and Debbie was awesome. Several local dogs adopted us along with a very sweet cat. 1/2 mike Hike to Neltjeberg Beach, off the beaten path, worth it ! .. Hike to the point offered spectacular view. Close to more touristy Megan’s bay and a local beach @hull bay. overall a great stay which made us feel as if we too, we locals. Would recommend and stay again

Best View Ever
Our entire experience was great. The views cannot be done justice with any photos… The team on site helped us with incidentals and recommendations, and Jeff was an available and super responsive host! We couldn’t have picked a better location- away from the busyness, but still right in the middle of the island so that everywhere we wanted to go was less than 30min away. We loved the beachfront in our backyard, as well as the very short drive to Magen’s Bay Beach (must visit). Definitely rent a jeep- the entire island terrain requires it, and try not to get lost in the many gorgeous views coming and going. An absolutely serene place to wake up and go to sleep… The air conditioning in the bedrooms was key, and if you keep all the windows open during a storm (we had two days of hurricane), the breeze throughout the rest of the house was perfect. We were at a few resorts for dinner and my siblings and I agreed that we would never want to stay at any hotel when we had an escape like this available. Thank you for such a wonderful experience- we cannot wait to come back!

Great neighborhood of friendly local people who go out of their way to make us feel welcome. We enjoyed the tranquil view and sounds of the bay from the front living room and porch from first light until after sunset. You will need a vehicle to get around. If you are looking for a new, resort type property, this place is probably not for you. But if you are looking for clean & comfortable in a community where you instantly feel at home, this is your place! A little off the beaten path, but so worth it! Perfect seclusion without isolation
This place felt like home the minute I arrived! I loved everything about it...the location was perfect for us; we prefer seclusion without being isolated, and this fits exactly. The on site property manager Debbie was absolutely amazing; she knew exactly when we needed something, or when we wanted privacy. We slept with the windows open all night, and despite the 80-85 degrees outdoors, it was comfortable 24/7 for 2 weeks. Everything we needed was provided, and if I was missing something, Debbie was prompt and helpful! The pool was clean and refreshing while we were there as well. The community is amazing! I met great people, and am looking forward to seeing them again... Debbie, Heidi, Chaun and Rob, Celia, Nelson and so many more! Things to know (none of these bothered me): I wouldn't call it a swimming beach, but it fills my soul the same. Enjoy the boats passing nearby. You can swim next door at Hull just a few minutes away. The road isn't that steep, and a car is fine for getting up and down 333 to the community, and the surrounding roads. Beep your horn going around any 'blind' curves, and go SLOW. There is wildlife: chickens (yes, roosters!), goats, horses, cats, sweet dogs (of course, let them meet you at their pace). Weekends are a little busier, but during the week it's pretty quiet. The waves are LOUD, or at least when we were there. You are right on the beach. Bugs: didn't have any in the condo, but 10 or so ants; I smashed them and no more showed up. There were some wasps/hornets in some of the foliage near the beach, so if you are allergic, bring an epi pen just in case. If not, there is some vinegar in the cupboard that worked great for me. There is also bug spray available for the rest of the biting creatures. The internet worked great, and my cell (Sprint) worked fine as well. There are only a few TV channels, not that you'll need it! The full kitchen has dishes, pots, pans, etc. The bed is comfortable in the main bedroom. Leave the windows open. The window AC did work great when my husband had a bug for a day. We never used it otherwise. The description is very accurate, and I'll probably think of 100s of other things I love about this place later, but I'm out of space!! THANK YOU JEFF! And Dorit, for sharing your condo with us! 100% see you next time as our primary (only?) location!

Nature lover's paradise
We fell in love with this secluded slice of heaven! This condo is unbelievably close to the ocean. We stayed in early March, and a constant strong breeze made for the perfect temperature (outside and inside the house) and the sound of crashing waves 24/7. We only saw a few boats cruise by the bay the whole week we were there. It's remarkably secluded, which we LOVED. Falling asleep to the sound of waves and a breeze on our faces was like a dream come true. It was surreal. Having screen doors across the whole living room was fantastic because that let in a strong breeze, and we liked falling asleep on the couch there. Enjoyed the balcony to soak in the quiet, waves and wind. During the night, you look out and see so many stars. There are no hotel lights or crowds of people like you get at a resort area. It's very peaceful. While some parts of the island are dicey, we felt 100% safe here, and we brought our toddler. We met two amazing locals, Debbie and Nelson, in the condo development who treated us like family. Debbie even ran to the store for infant Tylenol and Pedialyte because our son got very ill as soon as we arrived in St. Thomas. They gave us many great tips. Make sure you talk to Nelson about paddling/swimming in that bay based on currents and wind -- he's very experienced, and his guidance was spot-on. Follow his advice, and wear the life jacket provided. That bay has uniquely wild currents. We only paddled from the house when the bay calmed down, due to the strong current and constant crashing waves that time of year. It was fun, as we are experienced paddlers, and one of my best memories of the trip. Having Jeff's stand-up paddleboard and snorkeling gear there was so nice! If you're a hardcore SUPer, bring your own ankle leash because waves will knock you off the board unless the water goes super flat. :) From the house, a quiet 15-minute hike through the jungle led us to a secluded beach where only a few locals could be seen. At times, we had the beach to ourselves! We hope no one else besides the locals and people who rent Jeff's house find out about this beach, because we plan to come back and want it to be our "secret" then, too. Note: Due to hurricanes, the beach in front of the condo does look different than what's pictured. There's not much of a sand "beach" -- it's mainly rocks/coral/debris. But we didn't mind. Also, Jeff was super helpful in answering my questions. This condo exceeded our expectations. We'll be back!

Terrific stay at Dorothea Beach!
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Dorothea Beach! Jeff’s property is definitely off the beaten path, which was exactly what we were looking for. We had a very relaxing stay, enjoyed the rolling waves, scenic views and beautiful weather. The home has everything you could need, it is well as appointed and very comfortable! Some of the surrounding units are still recovering after the hurricanes, which honestly was a bit concerning at first. The property manger took the time to explain some of the challenges and she put my mind at ease. She was on site and accessible. The owner Jeff was also very responsive if needed. Just up the road is a convienance store if you need some basics and a fantastic restaurant called “Thireteen”. They have amazing food and we met some wonderful people here! The location is about 15 minutes to some of the tourist attractions and town. With the help of the local folks we were able to find some additional beaches that you will not find on “the map”. All extremely beautiful and very secluded. Luckily we had a Jeep, theses spots were rough to access - but completely worth it! We would highly recommend Jeff’s home - we had a wonderful stay & met some amazing people! Thank you for your hospitality!
