Check-in took a while. The owner printed off a sheet, stared at it for a minute, asked if I had paid in advance, then stared at the sheet for another minute or two, then looked at his computer, stared at the sheet again and so forth. He finally gave me my key.
The room was old and a bit run down. The room was cold so I tried to turn on the heat. There was so much dust and grime covering the controls, that I couldn't read the settings. When I got the heat going, it put out a burning smell and it set the smoke detector off. When I tried to use the floor lamp in the corner, I found that it didn't have a bulb.
When I went to bed, I pulled the covers back and a bug was running across the sheet. There is no lobby at this hotel and no in-room coffee maker, so when I got up the next morning, I had to walk across the street to a gas station to buy a cup.
On the positive side, the bed was fairly comfortable and there is a very good German restaurant around the corner.
