Chill at McDill ~
Did you ever think you could have an island getaway with the convenience of in-town amenities? You can, at this hidden treasure on Riverwoods Island! This home will not disappoint! If you’re a water-lover, golfer, biker, hiker, or just a ‘get-me-out-of-towner’ this is a place you will come to over and over again!
Located in the heart of Stevens Point, this house has the uptown luxuries of bars, restaurants, and entertainment, but the tranquility of the northwoods in a private and serene setting.
This hidden treasure is connected by land bridge going across a small channel that's been around for decades. The island has a 1 mile loop of road system, great for taking morning walks or an afternoon bike ride. This area has many nearby grocery stores, bars, and restaurants, along with delivery services, should you never want to leave the house. McDill Pond is a lake that is approximately 261 acres in size. This is the home to some great fishing, kayaking, tubing, and other water sports. With many channels and sloughs, there is always something new to explore.
Here are a few of the many amenities our town has to offer, as well as personal reccommendations of activities to do for the whole family.
Groceries: Save-a- lot foods is the closest grocery store and has all the basics, but the Metro Market has a bigger selection of fruits, veggies, bakery items, and meats, so it depends on what you have a taste for.
But when it comes to fresh fish, seafood, and meat, Ski's Meat Market is highly recommended. They have the best selection and quality in town in my eyes. We also have a gas grill on site, with an extra tank in the garage, should you run out of gas midway through cooking.
We do have a guide in the welcome tool kit at the house, but here are different restaurant options depending on what you're in the mood for.
Breakfast/Brunch: On the top of my list is Rock and Roll Cafe. They have excellent food and a broad menu that usually has something for everyone
Steak and Seafood: Wissota Chophouse. This is one of the pricier options in Point, but we have yet to be disappointed. Whether it's a dry aged ribeye or lobster and crab legs, this place is excellent. Their carrot cake is also second to none. Sometimes my wife and I go there just for that!
Sushi: Matsuya
Hibachi: Tokyo Steakhouse
Mexican: El Molcajete Mexican Grill
Tulum and El Mezcal are also local favorites, and have outdoor seating
Coffee/ bakery: Mission Coffeehouse, Zest, Ruby coffee, and Emy J's. You can't go wrong with any one of them!
If you're into micro brews, we have O'sos, District 1, and Central Waters. Central Waters has won countless awards for their different recipes, and they have an awesome facility.
Point brewery is one of the larger breweries in the area, and gives great tours full of history and fun facts.
Kayak and bike rentals: Northward Peddle and Paddle. Should you need more Kayaks to get everyone out on the water, or explore the 27 mile hiking and biking trail called the Green Circle Trail that loops around town, this would be the rental place I would recommend.
Single Track Mountain Biking: Standing Rocks County Park
If you are looking to rent a pontoon boat for a day, Waupaca is about 25 minutes east of Stevens Point, and has a few different rental options on the chain of lakes. If you make it out there, be sure to grab lunch at the Clearwater harbor bar and grill.
If you have kids, KASH park is a really nice park in Stevens Point, and Pacawa Park in plover is awesome and just underwent a huge remodel and added a splash pad as well. We also have the Central Wisconsin Children's Museum downtown, which has both educational as well as entertaining activities for the kiddos.
The Putt-N-Play is a great option for a rainy day. It is an indoor mini golf course on the north side of town. It's reasonable, and good entertainment for both kids and adults.
Winter Fun:
Down hill skiing and snowboarding: Granite Peak
Carve your path on the best hill in Wisconsin.
Find your legendary adventure at Wisconsin’s #1 ski area, Granite Peak. Explore over 200 acres of terrain spread out across 60 trails serviced by the Midwest’s fastest lift system, including the only 6-pack in Wisconsin! Cruise down a groomer, explore our expansive woods, or take a ride through the air on one of four progressive terrain parks. When you need a break, relive your turns over a hot chocolate or cold beer next to one of the fire pits on the newly transformed Historic Chalet Deck.
Snowshoe and skiing rentals and trails: Standing Rocks County Park
Standing Rocks is a gorgeous piece of property just outside of town (approximately 15 minutes) with a small downhill ski slope featuring 3 runs (beginner to moderate), cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and single track biking. They also provide snow shoes, downhill and cross country skis, and snowboards for rent.
Free ice skating, rental equipment available: Goerke Park
This is right in town by Goerke Park. There is a free outdoor ice skating rink with a warming house and concessions, open from sunrise to 11pm. They have skates available to rent.
Iverson Park Winter Sports Area: Tobogganing, sledding, and (small) snow board run. Great for both kids and adults
This gives you a start on some of the things that make our town great. If there's anything else that really interests you and/or your family that wasn't on the list, let us know and we'll try to give you our best recommendation.
