One of the loveliest and most charming places among all the hotels we stayed, over a two week road trip through Norway. Lorentz is a superlative host, having grown up on the property and is perhaps the fourth generation innkeeper. Emma is a fabulous cook and baker, breakfasts were delicious and generous. Her homemade sourdough breads and desserts helped fuel our day. One must take dinner at Hjelle Hotel. They were prepared and presented beautifully and hit just the right spot after a day of hiking and touring. In the morning, the elegant dining room was filled with sunlight and in the evening we ate by candlelight. The hotel is nestled along the shore of a gorgeous lake, fed by glacial melt, surrounded by mountains. Hjelle Hotel is THE place to stay if you love to hike, to breath fresh air, to take in the beauty of the mountains and to get a good night's sleep, it's quiet and peaceful.
