First off, we absolutely loved Sydney. It was a fantastic destination for us, and I believe one of the most amazing cities on Earth.
There are 5 Meritons in the central business district; at least two others are very close to this Kent Street property. I suspect that they must be pretty similar properties.
We booked an “altitude” suite and were not disappointed. Our level 50 room offered fabulous views. It was a spacious, modern, and tastefully furnished one bedroom apartment. Also, the hotel service was excellent.
Two things to watch out for: one is the card key/elevator system. It seemed to either amaze, or freak out, hotel guests. Your card key activates the system, which will tell you which elevator to use, whereupon you will be whisked rapidly to your level. There are no buttons to operate in the elevator itself, which is a little unsettling.
Finally, one minor caveat is that the gym wasn’t appealing to me. It is next to the pool and hot tub, wasn’t well ventilated, and you have to walk through the steamy area where the floor is wet and there may be screaming kids.
Overall though, a great place to stay, not far from Darling Harbor and maybe a 20 min walk to the Circular Quay and a few more minutes to get to the iconic Sydney Opera House.
