Staff are great, friendly. Bathroom tiles are mouldy.
Structure of the building is so old and unsafe. There are big cracks already in the cement wall.
Bunker bed (upper side) is dirty and dusty).
The hostel owner Stephennie is very friendly and helpful, giving a lot of information about eating and visiting around Sydney. The hostel is suitable for family, safe, quiet and clean. I took my two kids for holiday and just wanted to get a tidy and convenient place to sleep. The hostel with such good location and reasonable prices is what I was looking for. Stephennie also kindly kept our luggage for whole day when I checked out. Thanks Stephennie.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
The room and facilities were very clean The staff were nice I would not go back because the unisex bathroom had a light curtain between the hall and bathroom which blew in the wind allowing people to see in. The shower cubicles did not have any room to turn on the shower without getting wet nor to take your clothes off and store them in the dry. Therefore you had to strip off in full view. I did find a single shower down the hall afterwards which I could have used that had plenty of room.

Handy to Central railway
Hotel was built in 1893 so is very old. It is a hostel so had a veryity of cheap travellers there. Some of the dirty young lazy people should never have left home. Had road works outside my window on the first night until 4am.
The price is right - but perhaps not for what you get. Bathrooms not clean, not able to lock shower door, kitchen old and dirty, breakfast - white bread toast, jam and butter that had been used for weeks, cockroach dead on stairs that was not removed during our whole stay, curtains and window filthy. Also a dead cockroach under the bed.
One thing that was very good was that the sheets and towels were clean and nicely presented. Also the staff also were extremely nice and accommodating, however, I would not recommend this place. There are other back packers with clean share bathrooms for a similar price and location.
I stayed at the Sydney City Hostel for three days. From Friday until Sunday. The room was reasonably clean, quite dusty though. The window would not close, it was jammed open about 10 cm. I asked staff if they could close it but it wouldn't close due to the external work (painting) happening outside. My concern was cockroaches and mosquitoes would come in throughout the night as there are no screens.
The power point in the room was not attached very well which I believe is a safety concern.
The hallway carpet stinks and needs to be removed. The showers were mouldy and were unclean.
The shared kitchen was okay and clean but dishes (clean and dirty) were left on the sink all the time.
The worst part about the kitchen was the smell of cigarette smoke and other smells which came in through from the small balcony area next door. Loud heavy metal music was playing each night in this balcony area as well.
There is no recycling at all in the Hostel. This is shocking for me as I am hugely concerned about our planet. I have sent an email to the manager of the Hostel asking why they do not provide recycle bins for guests to use.
Classic backpackers dig ... Very helpful staff and reasonably priced

Great location but hotel not for everybody!
Great location. Breakfast was offered, but only corn flakes available. I preferred other options (thank goodness for nearby supermarket!). Second floor toilet and showers barely tolerable. Anyway location and cost outweighed those negatives.

Great location. Cheap room that sufficed.
You get what you psy for. Don't expect much though breakfast was poor.

Affordable backpackers close to Central Station
You are obviously getting what you pay for, but I've certainly stayed in worse places. Very basic facilities even for an individual single room with shared bathrooms, but I was just after a place to sleep really &this was fine for what I needed.
