Very peaceful and quiet! Great place to “get away from it all.” Room was clean and comfortable. Old building charm, while surprisingly quiet. Could use more water pressure but fixtures were fairly new. Very REMOTE location. No tv and minimal phone/internet signal, which wasn’t a problem for me (was a nice break). Bring food/snacks as closest grocery store is over 35 minutes away. One small convenience store & one local pub/restaurant (which was pretty good). All in all, it is what I expected and a very relaxing stay. The history of the building, which the host likes to share, is rather interesting and adds to its charm. Would definitely consider staying here again if in the area.

The Birch lodge is old and very beautiful. Only problem was that we stayed in the #10 Fishing room, second Floor and the floor was very slanted causing my husband having a hard time staying on his side of the bed. Also the bed was very soft. Very all a lovely place to stay!

Birch Lodge was perfect for our stay in the UP. It is an hour or less to Taquamenon, Whitfish point, Soo Locks, Mackinaw island and both Lake Superior and Michigan. We loved the convenience of having row boats and kayaks on the property for a quick fishing trip on Trout Lake. It was peaceful sitting on the porch and by the fire in the evenings. The history of the hotel adds to the charm. The modern upgrades to the hotel and the coffee ready in the mornings made us feel at home.

We booked this overnight stay in a hurry online and thought it was too good to be true. We were prepared to be disappointed ...BUT....low and behold we found an amazing hidden jewel! It was absolutely beautiful, the owners were friendly and fun, the accommodations were perfect, and our stay couldn't have been better! The Birch Lodge and Hotel was wonderful!!!

The property is beautiful, quiet, and welcoming. The caretakers are thoughtful. We loved the private beach and using the kayaks and rowboat. Beach towels and blankets are provided. The fire pit had everything needed for a fire. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return.

Amazing stay!
Amazing stay, even though it was a quick one! The owner was very friendly and accommodating. I was worried about checking in at 930pm, but he was there and even had a great conversation, so I didn’t feel hurried at all. The room was amazing and the shower was as so great. The fire pit was great, even though the mosquitoes were biting. Just bring some mosquito repellent!

It’s a unique property, which caught us off guard initially, but it ended up being a beautiful place to stay. Our room in the lodge was very well appointed, the bed was very comfortable, and it turned out to be a wonderfully different stay than your typical hotel.

Rustic location with luxury touches!
The Historic Birch Resort and Motel on Trout Lake was a spectacular find. What a hidden gem! It made for the perfect stay as my family of four explored this part of Michigan. It was centrally located to Whitefish Point, Sault Ste Marie and Mackinac Island. The Inn is in a rustic setting, but filled with luxurious touches. The decor is tasteful and beautiful. It combines historical and antique pieces with modern furnishings. The rooms tell the story and history of the building which is interesting. The view from the front porch was my favorite way to start each day. I loved looking out at the lake from a rocking chair. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. The rooms were quiet and the HVAC system worked well, ran quietly and provided the perfect temperature. The ceiling fan was a great bonus too as I like to use one at night. The breakfast treats, coffee and tea were delicious each morning. We would most definitely recommend a stay at this property to family and friends. We would love to return one day too.

Beautiful old lodge on a beautiful setting. We stopped at Trout Lake as a way point and didn’t expect much but now know that it is worth a couple days visit. The lodge has been beautifully redone— our lake view room was fabulous. There are kayaks and row boats and even a small beach. Loved the place. True, only two places to eat in the tiny town, but we also really enjoyed the atmosphere at the buckhorn bar!

We had an excellent two night stay. Jim (the proprietor) was friendly and knowledgeable. Pet friendly accommodations and free use of row boats, kayaks and paddle boards adds a nice touch. A lot of charm and history in this setting.
