My husband and I stayed two nights at the Chisun hotel while exploring the Tsukuba area by foot and by bike. The hotel staff went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. We arrived to the dining area as breakfast was ending on the first morning and some of the platters were empty, but the staff member on duty replenished all of the dishes that we requested. The same staff member, who speaks wonderful English by the way, helped us transport our bikes all the way to Mt.Tsukuba, where he also arranged for us to park them as we hiked up the mountain. The day was gorgeous, the views were amazing and the bike ride along the "rails to trails" through way, though a long way back to the hotel, allowed us to see parts of the countryside that we wouldn't have been able to enjoy while traveling along the main roads. We ate out locally on both nights - Italian next door, nothing special and perhaps a bit overpriced for the location/quality of food - especially the pizza. Our server was quite friendly though. We also tried the nearby ramen shop - nothing fancy, but a big bowl of hot, spicy noodles was just what we needed after a 3 hour hike up a mountain and a 3.5 hour bike ride home on a cold winter day! (The liquor store across fhe street from the hotel and off to the right also had good deals on beer and wine.) All in all, we had a lovely time and would definitely return to the Chisun the next time while traveling through this area.
