Do NOT Rent a VACASA owned home through VRBO
and honestly not sure VRBO has a heart. I'm sure there were many people who rented something in beautiful Western NC that the utter destruction of Hurricane Helene upended. Ours was in Tuckasegee an area that the state of NC declared a state of emergency and prohibited travel to by anyone other than official emergency help. Neither VRBO nor VACAS, despite sending actual NC gov. info., refused to acknowledge the actual conditions in the area. They blithely said everything was fine. If all we lose is two nights rental it will be nothing in comparison to what the communities will go through to rebuild their beautiful towns. We will go back to WNC whenever they are ready for us. But we will never rent from the heartless VACASA or VRBO. We heart WNC.

“This is the best place we have ever stayed at in N.C.!”,as per our kids. Great home with a frontage on a dammed river. Kids spent the time fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Took hikes, went white water rafting, and visited Bryson City. Great trip and are looking forward to renting this home again!

Serene retreat beside the river
This home is beautifully sited without and planned within. You always want a large and well-equipped kitchen and numerous dining places and this had it all, whether working on the dining room table or lounging at the patio table, or using the table in the screened porch. Games, puzzles and dinner plates, no problem. The Tuckaseegee River, down a small path, provide natural wonder, swimming, floating and fishing. You could hear it at night from the bedrooms, soothing and constant. A place of great beauty, great fun, now great memories.

Perfect for Graduation
This house is beautiful, and location is amazing! We rented for my daughter's WCU graduation, and it was perfect. A couple broken appliances but were not a big issue for us and I'm sure they will be fixed for the next group.

WCU move in
Great spot. We really enjoyed our stay at this property for a mini family get-a-way as we moved our daughter up for her college move in. We will definitely look to stay here again!! Only difficulty we experience, was it was hard to communicate with the property manager about a bear/ trash incident due to the poor reception and internet service. Had to drive off property just to get texts out. But all ended well

Relaxing Family Home
We loved our stay in this home and will definitely be back again. It is very spacious with plenty of room for a large group. There is a lot entertainment for the kids outside between climbing wall, zip line, and all the water toys. Property manager was very responsive to help with a minor issue that we had at check in so I would highly recommend them as well.

The house was big enough for everyone to spread out and had plenty to do!
The kids loved the low level of the water and played in it every day. They loved the kids kayaks. They also enjoyed the "playground." We enjoyed spreading out. With 6 adults and 4 kids aged 2 1/2 to 9, we had plenty of room to be together or apart as needed. Grandma and Grandpa really enjoyed the quiet, spacious, master suite. The property description needs 2 small tweaks-- Describe the main entrance better. It's not just a sign on a tree. Also, it's the bottom lock that works, not the top.

Bad experience
We was so excited about the property. Even considered renting on summer time because of the lake. Until we realized that the ice dispenser didn’t work, the stove barely worked, and on top of that we lost power around 12 midnight on the 26 it returned around 7 in the morning and after a few minutes it was out again. Somehow the power controls the water. We have to cut our celebration short that night. We couldn’t eat breakfast, shower, or use the toilet. We had to run out of there to be able to take care of our personal needs. What a disappointment!

Great House/ Great Week
I would love to give this house a five star rating, but there were some issues. Our family customarily vacations in a mountain house every summer. This house was a wonderful house--very commodious and inviting, a place for everyone and for all of us. However, the advertising indicated that the house was on a lake, but there was no lake, nor had there been for quite a while. [Apparently work on the dam that contained the lake] Though we did enjoy the house, we were disappointed that we had been mislead. Also, though the house was very delightful and accommodating, it was only superficially clean, which made me uncomfortable. It was the least clean of any house we have stayed in [over our ten years of vacationing] and I was a little afraid I'd be held accountable for such things as stains in the carpet. Also, the WIFI was not functioning so our working members were disadvantaged. All that said--it was our favorite house EVER! We loved its location; we loved the way it accommodated us all; we loved the workable kitchen [we're foodies] and the eating arrangements; we loved the deck, where we spent hours enjoying each others' company, and the interesting view, and we even loved the little creek in the back yard where our children luxuriated in building sand castles and kayaking in the little kayaks. We would like to go back next year or some subsequent time.

Great Family Retreat
Family time is the best time! Our 2019 Christmas season “experience” for our children and six grandchildren is a tradition we hope to continue. Spending our first one at Skinny Dippin' was a great choice. Lots of space and plenty to do here...puzzles and games (we attempted a 2000 piece puzzle - a valiant effort), playing outside (zip line, swings, rock climbing wall), gathering wood for the fire, walking on the bottom of the lake (online listing warned that the lake is pulled down in winter), eating and hanging out in the open family/dining/kitchen area. It was great! I would love to come back during the summer when the lake is up. Fair warning - the driveway is pretty steep - not for the faint of heart! Thanks to the owners for sharing their wooded retreat with us.
