My family prefers to stay in local, minimalist settings so we were looking forward to trying this unique hotel near several cenote parks. Unfortunately this place was extremely uncomfortable and we would definitely not stay there again. The shipping container rooms are quite rundown and poorly maintained. Our room was facing a completely burned out building. The rooms were terribly humid our entire stay - the bedding was damp and even with the air conditioning running, all of our clothing became damp. There was no wifi, tons of mosquitos and a cockroach in the bathroom. On a positive note, we were able to rent bikes, the pool was decently maintained and the light breakfast was fine. I am disappointed that I can’t give a better review but this stay was so uncomfortable we were all happy to get out of there when it was time to check out.
What a mistake making reservations here for my entire family. We only booked it becasue of the proximity to the xel ha park. Check in so complicated because they kept saying more issues have risen (none of which were our problem) The rooms smelled foul like mold. My moms room had a gap in the door allowing the mosquitos in and the ac didn't work. None of their windows locked. The room was ajoined to another group of people and they were so loud. There was no muffling the sound. The pool was disgusing, it appears it was used as a hocking up and spitting target practice. Our room we paid for the entire setup yet the guy in the front wanted to know if we would be using the bed we paid for because he didn't feel like making it the next morning. Unreal!!!! When we left the next day we had to wash everything we ownded becasue the smell had penetrated our entire luggage. This place is just gross. Its unkempt, it has a bad vibe all around.
For the price, Colorbox is a good option to stay close to Tulum (the hotel is located15 km north of the city), the Maya ruins of Coba, and various beaches. It's clean and no frills (no closet or dresser, or even a single hook). You get a clean and comfortable bed and a good shower with hot water. While close to the highway (and you hear it), the property itself is quiet and appeared safe. Note that there are no lock boxes in the rooms and we opted to have valuables with us at all times. Staff was friendly. The included breakfast is basic but enough to get a start in the morning.
Wonderful experience! Management and people who work there made sure our stay was pleasant and recommended us to visit Cenote Casa Tartuga which were very close 5 min drive and offered great ( almost half price - depending on exchange rate ) discount when we booked tickets to Cenote there - normally $600MXC but we paid $10 dollars less also this Cenote has adults only when you pay $100 MXC Pessos and it is open till 8-10 pm depending on the day and it is so worth it!!! Tulum drive is about 10 min! We enjoyed everything the Colorbox has to offer and Sandro was very kind to make sure our every day was full of happyness! We recommend this place for families and friends who visiting Tulum for a few days ! Thank you !
The location on the map, adress and description of location is totaly wrong!!!!
On hotels.com link for location is totaly wrong!!! It shows it is in Tulum immidiatly before historical ruins. Also description about location is wrong: it shows 7 min walking distance from ruins, and on the end when I put on google maps the adress it shows the same, on the ruins
But the location is:
14 km aut of the Tulum!
We lost at night, without car it is tottaly inconvinient!
I feel that is on purpuse made the wrong location....because if you new it, I think almost nowbody will chose it...
14 km out of tulum and the main highway with terriblle noise!
Big, teriblle noise...because the propery is on the main highway!
And yu cant see that before because the description of location is totaly wrong.
I spoke with them in hotel, they jus say sorry:).
It was terrible, not possible to relax!
I would never again stay there if because of noise!
We arrived around 11:00 PM. I guess their front desk is not open at that time of night. However a man came and helped us check in anyway. He was very kind and showed us to our room. This is a hostel but you have your own private room with bathroom and shower. Room was basic but clean. Two beds and a bedside table. No chairs, table or TV in the room. Lovely pool and patio in common area! Breakfast was included. They offer toast, a bowl of cereal, and fruit. Also coffee and orange juice. The man running the breakfast area was super friendly and helpful! This place quite convenient being right off the highway a short drive from Tulum. Definitely better price than other options we found in Tulum. Would definitely recommend this place!
Very comfortable beds! Best sleep i have ever had in mexico. You can play your own misic through the sound system at the pool and this was great. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately the swim up bar was closed (due to covid-19 i think). Location is a little far from tulum but right next to dos ojos cenote which was good
