The Red Cottage ~ 5min stroll to Fort, St. George St., Shops, Restaurants, etc.

In full disclosure The Red Cottage is a 100 year old structure, built from lumber salvaged after the 1914 fire. Now more than a hundred years later it has its quirks and flaws and very few level or straight lines but it's charm, warmth and persona are enchanting. The Red Cottage isn't for everybody. So with that said, if you’re hesitant the cottage may not be for you.

It is rustic, quaint, cozy and charming. It has recently been renovated and has all of the modern luxuries with a touch of its history. It has been converted to a one room sitting area/bedroom with a small kitchen and bathroom (shower only & tight). The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig coffee machine multiple coffee pods, cream & sugar, a small refrigerator, stove, microwave, a toaster, and normal kitchen necessities. A flagstone patio offers outside seating. Free off-street parking with extra space for trailer/boat or a recreational vehicle is on the property.

The Cottage sits on the back of the property overlooking Castillo Drive, the entrance to the city. Francis Field, across the street, is the downtown event field/ dog park. The Cottage sleeps two comfortably with a large loft that sleeps two. I have to divulge, the loft is a steep ascent up a vertical ladder, so if you're considering this space you need to be agile. Less than 200 yards East is The Visitor Center and the trolley hub. The Fort and Saint George Street are 100 yards beyond. The Cottage sits on a large piece of property behind a turn-of-the-century Victorian home. The Cottage was also built around the turn of the century where Manuel Mendez rolled cigars until the mid 1930's. Short drives take you to the beautiful beaches of Anastasia State Park and St. Augustine Beach. On the way to the beach, stop by the Alligator Farm and the Historic St. Augustine Light House. For shopping, choose from area outlet malls, flea market, and several farmer's markets.

Safe travels and peace be with you.

Cute place to stay, close to everything
The cottage was cute, affordable, and close to everything. The pictures in the listing are accurate. Thes hosts, Jeremey and his sister Hilary were great!! They were very nice and accomodating!! There were some reviews that mentioned excessive noise: we didn't experience that. Of course cars and people go by, but it wasn't any more than anywhere else we've stayed there. The shower: the shower was truly tiny, as stated in the listing.. We discussed this before booking, as my husband is 6 foot 220 pounds. He was able to shower and get fully clean :) However, he just barely fit, so if you are bigger than that, know you may be washing one body part at a time. The toilet: the toilet is on a weird platform as some reviews complained about. It is a bit awkward, but overall it wasn't a problem for us. The bed: the listing states a king sized bed and a queen. Just know going in the queen is what is in the main room. The king must be in the loft, we didn't go up there. The cottage and everything in it is older, it doesn't feel like your staying in a pristine hotel, it feels like your staying with your older Grandmother who does the best she can to keep up with things.. It was comfortable and affordable. I guarantee you will not find another place in Saint Augustine so close to everything for the price of this cute lttle cottage!

Property location is great, easy to walk to most everything. Eclectic little place, wouldn't necessarily recommend it for long stays or more than 2 people, but worked out great for our weekend stop.

Welcoming host and great location!
The cottage is a 5-10 minute walk at most to the St. Augustine welcome center and historic district. Fabulous location with parking. The host, Jeremy, is very welcoming and responsive. There is a dog park right across the street, which is great for traveling with your pet. Really great stay.

Great Location!!
We really enjoyed staying at this house. It was very close to town, easy walk. Jeremy was great to work with...he actually called us the day before we were supposed to be there and offered to allow us to check in really early which turned out great for us. Jeremy also called us on our last day and said we can do a late checkout if we wanted to. The only thing I want to point out is the shower, it is VERY small which is fine for us since we do a lot of camping but just know this. We would stay there again for sure.

no a/c
Jeremy, the VRBO manager was very nice and helpful, however the unit had no A/C and because of that we had to cancel our reservation. He was very quick to help resolve the problem and get us a full refund. I would definitely book with him again with him because of his eagerness to make us happy. Please let him how much we appreciate him, Thanks again

Quick weekend getaway
Jeremy was accommodating to our needs of checking in after midnite. Warmly welcomed us at that hour and gave the grand cottage tour. Location was perfect to pop in and out of throughout the day while enjoying the town. Harry the cat patrolled the property throughout the night and enjoyed head scratches during the day. This was a perfect weekend for us. Thank you for making our weekend special.

Wonderful weekend getaway!
My partner and I were able to get away and enjoy a beautiful weekend in St. Augustine. The communication from the property team was great! We had suffered a storm the morning we were supposed to drive in and they allowed us to check in at a later time. We were so close to everything, we didn't have to drive all weekend! We walked to and from the city and were able to enjoy the city and all it's beautiful sites. I would definitely book again for another weekend getaway. (:

Decent
It was okay, little run down compared to pictures but overall good for the price. The shower is super small, so if you have long hair, you won’t be able to wash shampoo out of it. The toilet is on an odd platform, so it’s awkward to use. The owners are super nice and friendly. It’s a decent place to stay as a stop gap.

Convenient
The Red Cottage is an easy walk to St. George Street and all of the historical sights we were interested in seeing. The cottage itself is an eclectic array of furnishings. We are not 5 star accommodation seekers. So, the few quirks we encountered did not disturb us. Unfortunately my husband caught a cough due to cold, which curtailed our sight seeing. But, the good news is, Jeremy, the owner was kind enough to give him ibuprofen and cough drops to help him through. Remember folks, it's always an adventure when you rent a place sight unseen. Ejoy the ride!
