Hazelnut cottage is fully equipped with quality appliances, decorated to high specification and comfortable. It is complemented with a park of two acres and a heated pool of 12mX6m with pool house and summer kitchen. 50 minutes east of Bordeaux , 30 minutes west of Bergerac, 20 minutes from the world heritage town of St Emilion.

Hazelnut Cottage although entirely independent is annexed to a completely renovated Maison de Maitre dating back to 1678 oozing architectural features, charm and comfort. The ancient original door of the Manor has been preserved complete with the lock and the key the size of which does not fail to amaze the visitors every time. Many vineyards are waiting to be explored. Most of them offer wine tasting and an expert tour of their vineyards. The UNESCO protected St Emilion with its charming cobbled streets and exceptional wines is just 20 minutes away. The River Dordogne is just 0.4 km from the house and there are many pleasant spots to walk and cycle along the riverbanks. Canoeing, fishing and riding are popular activities alongside sports such as tennis and an excellent golf club is only 20 minutes away. Our local market (Sainte Foy La Grande) has been voted the people's favourite market in France and is a must see.

The magnificent TGV takes you from Paris to Bordeaux in 2h30min. Bergerac airport 35 minutes away, Bordeaux airport just over 1 hour away – both have cheap flights to and from the Uk, Ireland and the Netherlands, as well as other destinations

The property was perfect for us , shady terrace in the late afternoon helped us to cool down , although there were plenty of other sunny areas around the pool and gardens . The pool is large and immaculately kept with large shaded kitchen area and relaxing sofas and chairs . Sun beds are comfortable and padded cushions are clean and well maintained Caspian and Lulu were wonderful hosts , informative on the area and no questions were too trivial . The whole holiday was a delight and we can’t wait to return next summer if they will have us , and our dog Harry ! Many many thanks

A beautiful ‘Get Away From It All’ place to stay.
We spent ten days at Hazlenut Cottage, and appreciated the peace and quiet, the fantastic pool and the spacious accommodation. A car is an absolute must staying here, to get to the local supermarket, nearby villages and towns and the various vineyards and restaurants in the area. We had really hot weather during our stay, and felt the only enhancement to the cottage would be air conditioning in the living area and the bedrooms, as it was impossible to keep the fans on in the bedrooms at night, (too noisy) and opening doors and windows let in mosquitos, who were happy to munch away on any exposed skin! Caspian was a fantastic host, on hand to help if needed, but respecting our privacy. Would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for an ideal peaceful retreat.

The property was exactly as listed. The owner however was not! We had a couple of personal issues to deal with. Caspian was kind, helpful, empathetic and considerate. He acted as taxi driver when we needed to find an EV charger, he offered another property in case we needed to extend our stay in France, he enabled the morning visits of a nurse. Amazing stay - highly recommend it!
This is a fabulous holiday cottage. The location is great (easy to reach Bergerac, St Emilion, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers), the outdoor pool is amazing (even better than the photos) and the cottage is extremely well appointed. Caspian, the owner, is extremely helpful and did everything to help make our stay so good. Would love to think we will return!

Hazelnut Cottage is the finest and most luxurious gite we have ever stayed in. Situated in a the grounds of a large country manor, complete with privacy, total quiet and a beautiful swimming pool. The gite was spacious and luxurious being tastefully decorated and having every appliance and comfort including a large TV and DVD player Very comfortable beds with lovely linen. Our hosts Caspian and Lulu couldn't have been more charming or helpful. There was no list of endless rules on display (so irritating in other sites we've rented) The area is quiet and peaceful yet close to villages with restaurants and markets. We can't recommend it highly enough .

A treasure in the Dordogne
This beautiful tranquil property is nestled between Bergerac and St Emillion and is the perfect base for exploring this region of the Dordogne .Hazelnut cottage was spacious, comfortable and peaceful for my family of four ( daughters 14 and 12). Caspian and Lulu were charming hosts,we received a warm welcome ,lots of useful information and nothing was too much trouble. Memorable moments include canoeing from Pessac,eating at a local farm ( Jardin Felician) which was a 1mile cycle ride away and the markets at st Foy le grande . Thank you for a special holiday we hope to return soon to La Gorce .

So good we will return next year!
My wife and I stayed in the 2 bed gite in early June. The gite is well equipped (though no microwave) and of a good size. It was very clean on our arrival. The outside area was very quiet and the heated pool was a delight especially as the weather was sometimes “dull”. Caspian and Lulu made us feel very welcome. We intend to return in 2019. Very highly recommended.

Just perfect!
This stone cottage is beautiful, spacious with high ceilings, and it always felt airey and cool. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay..dishwasher, washing machine and drier, wifi, TV. The icing on the cake was the lovely heated pool and pool house surrounded by quiet vines. Quite frankly I could have sat here for a week without moving. However if you do move there is plenty to do, the cottage is a short drive from the vineyards at St Emilion and Bergerac, and there is a train into Bordeaux. Great little spot! Our host Caspian was charming and thoughtful. We will definitely be back.

We have recently returned from our stay at La Gorce with our two children (14 and 9). We stayed in the Hazelnut cottage which was absolutely perfect. The gardens and the pool area gave the children the freedom to roam around and play safely. The hosts, Lulu and Caspian were superb, often around to offer advice and a friendly chat without being too conspicuous. The area is rural and peaceful with a couple of bars and restaurants only a few minutes drive away. A car is a must to enable you to visit some of the beautiful towns in the area. We would certainly consider another stay here, we felt so comfortable it was a drag to come home. Thank you Lulu and Caspian.

What can I say about this property it was a gem in Bordeaux. Right from the beginning Caspian was easy to deal with, and when we arrived he was there to meet us with a smile. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, with all the appliances that you need and all in very good condition. The setting was amazing right in amongst the vineyards, and the pool was well maintained, just what you need after a hot day out. I could not fault this property at all. And I would highly recommend it if you plan to visit the area.

Wonderfully relaxing
Had a wonderful relaxing fortnight ( family of 4, 2 girls age 10 & 12) Accommodation is top notch with great facilities in very peaceful surroundings. Pool is a good size, about 14m x 7m ish, plenty of room on the grounds for playing tennis/French cricket etc. Canoeing & bike hire are only a mile away, lots of charming villages a short bike ride away. Caspian & Lulu are very helpful & friendly. Definitely recommend it.

Superb accommodation & location!
We have just returned from a fantastic week at Hazlenut cottage. We were greeted warmly by the owners Caspian & Lulu, who throughout our stay were so kind, friendly & helpful. The location is superb, surrounded by vineyards, such a tranquil setting. Ideally situated for visiting many beautiful places in the Dordogne. A supermarket is 2 minutes drive away as is the stunning Dordogne river. We took our road bikes & the small quiet roads around La Gorce were absolutely perfect for cycling. Caspian had left a complimentary bottle of red wine on the dining table for our arrival. The cottage itself was a very high standard & immaculately clean. The inside was stunning including beautiful pieces of furniture. Our patio area had a barbecue, so many evenings were spent barbecuing meats bought at the local butcher & enjoying the peace & quiet with a glass of wine. The pool was an absolute joy, kept beautifully clean, & made our holiday! We never once shared the pool with other guests, so this was super, like having your own private pool! I cannot recommend this cottage enough, it's fantastic! The owners Caspian, Lulu & their wonderful dog Geoffrey play a great part in the success of a holiday here as they made us feel totally at home & relaxed in what is their home. We have fallen in love with La Gorce & of course, Geoffrey the lovely Labrador too!!
