Holidays in the monument combines heritage preservation and tourism. Historically valuable construction tools are taken over, gently renovated and rented as holiday apartments. The model makes a double profit: the monuments get a new future and holidaymakers experience a stay in an extraordinary building. The idea is realized by the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Homeland Security.

Parking: The parking lot is located directly under the house under a gazebo and is covered.

Public transport: From the station Kehrsatz a bus goes to Zimmerwald Post, then it continues the last 950 meters on foot.

Number of persons 4: There is a cot (up to 2 years) available. The house sleeps four guests (plus baby). There are two beds in two double rooms available. In the 1. Floor can be found the living / dining room and the kitchen. A mini-bathroom with shower, toilet and sink was installed at a later date. A steep staircase leads to the 2. Floor where the two bedrooms are located. The floors are made of wood which is why we recommend good slippers.

Garden: The hamlet Zimmerwald lies in wonderful nature and around the house there are various possibilities to stay.

OVENHAUS STÖCKLI - REPRODUCED BERNER STÖCKLI

History & Information
The oven house was built according to Türinschrift 1651 by Heinnirich Hildtbrandt. With the economic upturn in the second half of the 18th Centuries ago, the original oven houses were often extended to Stöcklis - the former typically Bernese pension of the oldest generation. This is also the case with the Ofenhausstöckli: the building inscriptions document an increase in a half-timbered building completed in 1738/1741 with two small rooms and a kitchen. Also at that time the dodgy sign roof was created. The Riegfüllungen are richly painted with vine paintings and baking symbols. 

The Ofenhausstöckli is a wooden frame from the 18th century. Century, on a massive brick oven house with cellar from the 17th Century is increased. Rarely one can still see so richly painted infillings from the time of the builders, who also show heraldic lions with attributes of the baking trade on the gable façades, as well as the space-filling spiral planter. They give the Ofenhausstöckli its characteristic appearance. Today the Stöckli houses a three-room apartment on 66m2. In the basement is the historic oven, which gives the house its name. On the ground floor is the living room and the contemporary kitchen. The two bedrooms are located in the attic and are accessible via a steep - less suitable for smaller children - stairs.

In 2006, the ownership of the Stöckli family property could take over. In the winter of 2006/07, the Stöckli was gently renovated and rebuilt by the owners - even architects - accompanied by the preservation of monuments. Smaller interventions adapted the inner division to today's needs. Thus, a small bathroom was built on the site of the old staircase. The simple wooden staircase has been moved into the living room. This made it possible in the attic to convert the passage room with the staircase into a full-fledged bedroom. Today, both attic rooms are accessed individually from the new staircase. With the removal of the wooden partition in the living room, the tiny chamber could be slammed into the living room. This also made it possible to reconstruct the southern row fencing. Roof and outer walls are now internally insulated and newly fenced. The attic rooms received additional light through small skylights. In the kitchen and in the entrance area, instead of the infill between the wooden bars, new windows are now available, which allows the natural lighting of the formerly gloomy rooms. 

IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENT
The Ofenhausstöckli is a monument that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and meets the object with care. Although technically state-of-the-art, certain functional details do not conform to current standards and harbor a potential source of danger. In particular, the steep stairs to the upper floor and the low parapets in some windows pointed out. These circumstances are known to the renter. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal disclaim all liability.

Eine Oase der Ruhe
Wir haben eine Woche im Stöckli verbracht und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Freundlicher Empfang, gut ausgestattete Küche, heimelige Atmosphäre. Die Lage ist top. Ruhig gelegen inmitten der idyllischen Landschaft des Berner Mittellandes. Bern, Fribourg und Thun sind gut erreichbar. Absolut empfehlenswert!
