This was my 3rd trip to Shell Island. The location is outstanding! Weekend trip and didn’t even have to leave the property. We just ate at the restaurant and bar, very convenient. Front desk staff is super nice with check in, towels and check out. Having a kitchenette is a huge plus for keeping small items on hand in mini fridge/freezer. Corner room this trip was very nice additional view only downside was it had a huge corner jacuzzi type tub/shower combo , sink/ vanity but no toilet and then a half bath. I would have preferred a regular tub shower combo and two toilets. Definitely recommend and will be back again!

We were in Suite 509 and it was a very nice unit. Being Ocean Front was amazing and the last resort on the beach. Limited dining and closed most of the time. Property is older and if updated could be amazing. Spa was not working.

The hotel is showing were and tear and needs attention. The room was not very clean when we checked in. The towels and sheets are old and look stained and yellow. The bathroom is in bad condition. The shower is old and creaks when you get in. I thought the faucet was going to come out of the wall. Overall the condition is very worn and out of date.

There was black mold in the ceiling but I understand they are near the water so its extremely difficult to keep the walls and ceiling from getting moist. We only stayed 2 nights it did not effect us. Also the staff was so nice and accommodating.

We have been to Shell Island Resort numerous times since it opened in the 1980s. The rooms are almost all the same, in spite of being mostly privately owned. They have great views of the best beach in NC and easy access to the water, but the room layout is a bit odd. Our room seemed dated and in need of remodeling, but it was comfortable. We'll go back.

This resort is a bit run down and gives poor value for the amount it charges, which included a high fee for parking. The bathroom in our room was shabby. The best feature was direct access to the beach. We did not eat in the restaurant or visit the bar.

Our room was not very clean. I had to request a broom to sweep our room myself. I was even asked to come get the broom myself! There was peanut butter smeared all over one of the lamps in the bedroom. Our TVs did not hardly work. The screen kept blacking out and the remote would only randomly work. We never got an apology nor was anything ever fixed.

Small ant problem resulting in us having to change rooms. We loss the beautiful panoramic view in doing so. Hated that but understood the need to change rooms! Beautiful access to beach! Clean beaches!

Nice place. Could stand some improvement.
Service wasn’t great. 2 people stayed for three nights. We had two towels and three washcloths. During the week it was super quiet, but because the bedrooms were on the side where the walkways are, people were super loud and rowdy on Friday night and early Saturday morning when we were trying to sleep. I did like the resort because all the rooms are ocean front and would stay again as long as it’s during the weekdays.

Great location for enjoying the beach. Facility is in good condition and the staff was friendly and responsive. The location is isolated, so a car is needed. Plenty to do in the area.
