Includes all comforts of modern living, this is the place to either get away from it all, or to celebrate an unforgettable get-together with friends and family.
Le Colibri offers arguably the most spectacular views in the Catskills. The photos give you a sense, but to really appreciate their splendor you have to come and see for yourself - you are sitting on the top of the world.
The only other sign of civilization are some sparkling lights at night, on Overlook Mountain, across the valley. Nobody can see you, and you are surrounded by nature's splendor. Le Colibri is what you hope to find after a long hike - except here you arrive via a private, majestic drive-way.
We cherish Le Colibri paradox: Even though you are fully immersed in nature, you are only a three minute drive away from enchanting Woodstock. The village is welcoming and fun in its decidedly alternative spirit. Good restaurants, cafes and boutiques abound, the pace is leisurely and the people of Woodstock are chatty. Enjoy a stroll down Tinker Street while listening to live music and relishing the town's 'Sixties' spirit, all the while spotting the occasional celebrity - back in the day Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston would summer down the road from Le Colibri. Woodstock is the home of many artists and musicians and increasingly being discovered by the hip and trendy. So whether you just want to buy the paper in the morning, dip down to town for a lunch or dinner, or knock on Valerie's door to pick-up a home-baked strawberry-rhubarb pie, the village is right there for you, and who knows who you might bump into?
Le Colibri consists of a three-story Main House and a separate two story Spa House. The two are connected by a large deck featuring a generous pool (open from mid-May through Nov. 1st). The pool is heated, but the seasons dictate the pool temperature, so before July 1st and after September 15th only the hearty souls swim. The deck is made of high-end composite - so no splinters! - and features a large grill station. The grill is connected to the house gas, so no fiddling with gas bottles or worrying about running out of gas. The deck furniture includes two mahogany pool lounges, a dining table with a large umbrella, an Adirondack seating group for four and a hammock.
The entrance to the Main House welcomes you with its cathedral ceiling. There is a comfortable bench where you can take off your boots in the winter, and store your ski equipment in the adjacent, generously proportioned closet.
Off the entrance is the entertainment room, with a working fireplace, a brand new 60' Samsung HD TV, couches, an alcoved home office (with our powerful wireless router), a wide-plank wooden floor, and a terrace to sit and enjoy the view.
Behind the entertainment room is the ground floor bedroom featuring French doors and a hand-made, solid cherry Le Grange bed with an adjunct Porcelanosa bathroom, turning this into a lovely mini-suite.
A grand staircase leads up to the second floor, opening onto the living room which has a another working fireplace, an ample leather couch and chairs, a music and library alcove and magnificent views.
The living room opens onto the generous kitchen with its modern appliances, including an induction stove-top, an oven and two refrigerators (main and beverages). The kitchen is fully equipped, and has ample cabinet space. It is framed by a counter island with high-chair seating for four, and a dining alcove with a beautiful dining table and spectacular mountain views.
Also off the living room is a wooden terrace, the perfect place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise over the Hudson Valley. On clear days you can see as far as the Berkshires - we are in the Catskills!
Behind the living room are two lovely bedrooms. One features a charming four-post Queen-size bed (shown in the photos) and looks out over the pool area. The bedroom next to it is the same size (also with a Queen size bed) and looks onto the garden and Bocci court. The second bathroom (shown), with its modern design, is right across from the bedrooms.
A spiral staircase brings you up to the generously proportioned Master Bedroom under the roof. The MB features a new, natural-fiber King size mattress (all mattresses in the house are new and natural fiber), ample closet and storage space and a TV. En suite is the beautiful and bright Master Bathroom with a bubble-stream tub and a natural-light flooded shower.
Making your way back down and across the pool deck will take you to the Spa-House - and here you are in for a treat, the piece-de-resistance! The grand room is dominated by luxurious leather couches and walls of windows granting 180 degree views. Sink into these chairs with a good glass of wine and you know that this world is not such a bad place after all. In the summer you can open four large French doors and enjoy the breeze and the sound of silence - or listen to your favorite music on the ample stereo system. The grand room of the Spa House has its own terrace with a full range of magnificent Catskill mountains views.
Downstairs from the grand room is the large, fully tiled garage. The original owner of the property, a modern gentleman, kept his 1976 Rolls Royce convertible here. You can still use it as a garage, especially in the winter. But chances are, you will have too much fun playing pool on the perfectly kept pool table or exercising on the gym equipment to even notice that it is meant as a garage.
Outside you'll find a vast, open lawn with two beautiful birch trees, tremendous oak trees standing sentinel, and of course the stroll down to our private pond.
The pond is situated in the lower part of the property, almost tucked away, and very much in its own, unperturbed world. This is the magic garden where you expect a fairy to whisper sweet secrets into your ear at any moment. Take the kids for a row boat ride on the pond. Watch the leisurely gold fish. Have a picnic at the shaded table with your bare feet caressed by the deep, lush moss. Feel eternity and timelessness.
Back at the house, the Bocci court beckons, and the beautiful garden. But maybe your favorite thing to do will be to sit on the cushions by the outdoor fire pit, see the sparks fly into night and take in the glow of the mountains.
Winter:
Skiing: Hunter and Belleayre 30-40 minutes drive.
Magnificent cross-country trails nearby.
Please note that the drive-way is sloped. While we will have it plowed and sanded for you, please be prepared and bring snow chains for your tires.
