Pretty room, very cozy. Comfy bed, plenty of warm water (not actually hot, but warm enough). Very close to the river, shops, restaurants, and sights to see, and walkable from the train station. Very accommodating about our breakfasts (they arranged a takeaway for us when only late slots were available the first morning, and a before-usual-times the next day when we had a very early train to catch). Super helpful half-a-level elevator in the lobby to get luggage/wheelchairs/whatever from street level to the reception desk. No complaints at all, this is a fine establishment.
And although we’ve agreed future trips to the UK will focus more on villages and small towns, and less on cities, York is an exception. It’s a special blend of the old and the newer, and really quite charming and beautiful. The Shambles was fun, Westminster was stunning (and the climb to the tower just as challenging as they warned, but well worth it), the wall around the inner city - we loved it all.
