Property is nice & clean. Area was quiet. The pool & jacuzzi were working fine when I got there since I saw people actively using them & then for some reason, was placed out of order the next morning. No idea what happened there.
There was a couple checking into their room the same time I was. I noticed I was asked way more questions about my stay than they were. I answered the same question 3 times about the number of people staying before I was given the paperwork & keys. The couple next to me had already gotten their keys & left. I felt a little interrogated. After driving 4 hrs I just wanted to get to my suite & rest.
Fair warning to fellow people of color: This area of Michigan is not used to seeing anyone that does not look like them. People will be visibility awkward, uncomfortable & nervous around you if you are not of Caucasian decent. They do their best to hide it well but it was very evident. There was a caucasian couple checking into their room the same time I was. I noticed I was asked way more questions about my stay than they were. I felt a little interrogated. After driving 4 hrs I just wanted to get to my suite and rest.
No one was outright mean, rude, nasty to me at all, but I did get a lot of stares everywhere I went around town.
I will not stay here again, personally.

Lena,I am sorry that we did not exceed your expectations upon your arrival to our property. We do strive to welcome everyone into our Lodge in a friendly and efficient manor. I did see that you were checked in by a relatively new employee that may not have had our greeting / check in process locked in as well as the very experienced employee that she was working with that afternoon. I was glad to see that you very complimentary about how peaceful and clean our property was during your brief stay.I did also see that you were among those that were not able to enjoy all that we have to offer due to our scheduled maintenance on both our pool and hot tub. If you are able to return to Northern Michigan I hope that you find our Lodge and Team welcoming.

Hidden gem
