We arrived late and property advised that due to water boiler leak the room heating was down. They would put a space heater in the room and leave it unlocked. When we arrived the heater must have tripped the circuit breaker because it was off as were most of the plugs in the room and lights in bedroom, closet, bathroom and lamp. No one returned calls or texts. We stayed in dark room and used our phone flashlights for bathroom, shaving, showering and getting dressed. I don’t think it’s overly safe to leave a room open with an unattended heater, or not have any way to reach the property or front desk after 10PM in case there is a serious issue.
In the morning manager / owner was nice and certainly polite but not too worried about going to see the issues or finding a way to remedy the inconveniences.

Dear Eliza,It is really unfortunate that the ac outlets on one side of the room was not working because the circuit breaker for that side had tripped. Fortunately, there was still power on the other side and you were able to use the lamp there. As soon as you reported the issue we immediately rectified the situation by flipping the circuit breaker back on. There were no further power failures after that, so we do not know what happened to activate the circuit breaker. We are honored to have been able to provide you with a safe, clean and comfortable room for your stay and we thank you for your patronage. PS:(We did not receive a call from you on the office phone that night, but we did see the text message the next day).

Not charming..
Publié le 23 août 2024 sur HotelsBed was miserable. Not charming just old and rundown. Not what I was hoping for. Bedframes stuck out from under bed. Easy to bang your legs in such a small room. Water leaked from sink and shower even after trying to turn it off. Not overly dirty though for price it was a place to sleep. Owners were nice. Hotel needs a lot of work.

Dear Ms JackolynWe have replaced every mattress in our rooms with a brand new firm mattress this past year. Our authentic retro showers impress many guests with their great water pressure.Please always try to immediately let your accommodation provider know of your concerns or difficulties, that way they can take prompt steps to rectify the problem to your satisfaction. It is not as useful to learn about the issue in a review after you have left and it is not always possible to re-create the condition you report. There were four in my group with two rooms. All of us liked the hotel and would recommend to others, even though the motel is 70 years old the rooms are updated. The bathrooms are original, but in very good condition there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, Only a few minutes from downtown, and very nice to walk across the street and be in the park on Lake Huron. Would stay here again without question

Big bear lodge
Publié le 22 août 2024 sur HotelsThis is an ok place to stay for one night. Would not do more than that. Small room. Very clean. Toilet made a noise while filling up after flushing. Main door squeaked loudly which could be easily fixed. People that checked us in were very nice and friendly. No one in office at 8:45am when we left. Again, nice place but not for a long stay. Won't be back again

Cute mom and pop motel. No frills but very clean and comfortable beds. Bathroom is in the small side as well as the room but works if just needing a place to sleep.
Owners were very friendly.
