Spider's place

Publié le 29 mars 2019 sur Hotels
We booked a 3 nights trip there that we will remember but not for the good reasons. You have to know that you dont really have front desk there. You are on your own and sometimes you can meet people that work there that can help you out. The lodging where you will stay are not noisy. it is hard to sleep since you can hear every sound from the jungle during the night. Also, we meet with many big spiders in our bedroom, not the ones you want to spend the night with.. Breakfast is minimum (coffee and fruits). Don't expect to be ready for all morning with that. Finally, the owner is not as friendly as you could expect to have with a place of that price. We spent 1 night instead of 3. We still paid for the 3 even if the place was not full.

Hi Jacques, thanks for taking the time to leave us your thoughts and feedback. We are sorry you didn't enjoy the peaceful jungle sounds. We try to be explicit in our descriptions that we are in a jungle setting, away from main roads, traffic and man-made noise. That is usually the highlight of many people's experiences, but we understand that its not for everyone. Those with an aversion to wildlife may be more suited to a city setting. We are at the base of a rainforest swathered dorrmant volcano on an island in Central America. With this in mind, we do sometimes encounter spiders, butterflies, lizards, monkeys and other non-agressive insects and animals around. We provide lots of information about these non-harmful creatures to let you feel more comfortable in this unique bio-sphere nature reserve we reside in. We'd like future guests to be conscious of this to ensure best fit vacations. We do not have a reception desk, that is correct. We do have a communal guest area in the open-air kitchen though and have staff around from 6.30am-10pm in case of any needs. We also have whatsapp numbers indicated in the welcome email, on the notice board in the kitchen and on your keychain in case of any queries or emergencies. Not all information you left above is entirely accurate. We charged you a last-minute cancellation in line with our explicit policy - 1 night's stay. You left after two night's with us. We opened the availability online to see if we could fill your spot in a last minute reservation and offered to reimburse you if we did find a replacement as a goodwill gesture, even though that is outside of our usual policy. Unfortunately there we no last minute reservations to fill your spot. Most people book here a little in advance. We strive to ensure that our visitors have the best time here, we're truly sorry that wasn't your experience.

We spent a lovely three days at Selvista. The jungle experience is wonderful, the cabins comfortable and the backpacker crowd friendly. We enjoyed the yoga classes and all the wildlife around, mostly birds. Oh, and the dogs are the sweetest. We didn’t see the owners much, but the one time we did, they were kind enough to give us a lift into town. There are a couple of things which would have made the stay better: 1) Adding a cabinet in the bedrooms, so you have somewhere to put your clothes 2) Refilling the water in the rooms, as some of them, like ours, are quite far to lug a huge jug of water. 3) Offering a breakfast option for people who don’t eat eggs. There’s fruit, granola and yoghurt on the menu, but the first two mornings they only had the fruit, so I ended up buying cereal for my breakfast, even though breakfast is supposed to be included. Lastly with only one exception my friends and I found the staff really disinterested. There was one guy smoking in the kitchen late afternoon who barely said hello and continued looking at his phone the whole time I was there, even though there were just two of us. But all things considered, it’s a great place to stay.

Loved the house, the staff and the island. Megan was wonderful. The only issue I had with my stay was our valcano guide. He ripped us off on the fee.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! We love the island, staff and houses too. If you would like to write to us privately with a little more info about the guide/hike prices I can investigate a little further to make sure everything is in order. Guides are $25pp usually for the full day, Maderas includes the entry fee to the park, Conception must be paid seperately by the hikers.

Property is far from shops, restaurants etc. Yoga included in price. Breakfast wasn't as nice as expected but anyway I left maximum of points :) There could be some lights in the jungle to get there at night as it is freaky dark :)

Hi Anna, thanks for your feedback. We are ten minutes on foot from shops and restaurants, but love our location as we are 'in the jungle'- a retreat which most people who visit us seek out. We also have two great restaurants that deliver up to the houses for those who don't want to walk into the town. We do recommend that all guests bring flashlights - and even provide them in the rooms- as our location is more 'remote', a peaceful jungle paradise out of town. Breakfast varies daily, I'm sorry you weren't impressed with yours. What did you have that day? We always provide herbal tea, unlimited quality local coffee, fresh milk from our neighbour's farm and fresh, natural fruit juice. There is a plate of seasonal fruit daily and yogurt/homemade granola and a cooked plate (usually poached/fried or scrambled eggs) with some form of bread or tortilla and accompaniments from our farm produce, ofen jackfruit salsa, or hummus, or pesto and potatoes etc. Our cooks are very good at accommodating dietry needs and preferences, so if you need something different feel free to let us know. We'll give you more of what you like and less of what you dislike. Have a great onward journey, we hope you enjoyed the island in general Best wishes
