A "Hidden Cottage" no Longer !
Publié le 18 déc. 2024 sur HomeAwayNot the first time I had stayed in "Piilo Pirtti", meaning "Hidden Cottage" in the Finnish Language. The cottage makes you feel like being in a warm cozy home where everting is clean and in its place. From the warm fireplace if the evening turns a bit chilly'; to watching kangaroos (yes they are wild) resting, feeding or the younger adult males jousting; to the many different birds which fly in looking for a nut or seed. A place where you can relax after catching your "trout" - fly fishing or trolling (mine was a brown on fly); or a day spent in the nearby ski slopes, and returning to your collective reminiscing on how your day was in the afterglow of the dying embers in the fireplace, and your favorite drink shared with family and friends. My second time will not be the last - the third time is already in the making. My family included my wife (from the Philippines); my sister (from Canberra) and my brother (from Salamander Bay, NSW). These are not just words for ad copy. They started in the mid-1960s my first visit to Anglers Reach when there was nothing more than a dirt track, many rabbits; a few kangaroos where I have stayed in a number of cottages over the years. But, for me there is only one "Piilo Pirtti" that draws me back for the charm, ambience, like my Grandmother's warm hug, the cottage draws me back for more.
My wife and I stayed from 24/11 to 3/12/ 2024 and extended that by another 2 days - I was happy to share my birthday with family and the Hidden Cottage.

Great Vacation

Had a little trouble with the wifi not working but that wasn’t going to ruin our stay though. We had only started our holiday when we were already planning our return next year. Thanks Alex and see ya in 12 months time.

Lovely stay in a charming, peaceful, and enjoyable place with a fire heater and sauna. Also lots of wild life arround the house and in the village.
Good for switchimg off and disconecting.

Alittle piece of serenity

The location, the fire, the sauna and the lake were all just fantastic. Out of our 12 nights we had 6 trout feeds . The trout in in pizza oven with blood orange and shallots were definitely the best.
Were looking forward to our next stay.

We just loved this place, exactly as the description says cozy mountain retreat Scandinavian style.
Everything was clean, in a mixture of old and new but all well maintained.
It had everything that our family needed, including toys, books and games. We enjoyed the sauna and made pizzas in the wood fire oven.
The community was so quiet and lovely to walk around. Lots of wildlife to look at.
The cabin is not far from selwyn ski resort and the Yarrongbilly caves and thermal pool.
The caretakers were also very helpful.
We will be back.

Fantastic cosy cottage

We came to spend some time in Selwyn but the weather didn’t play nicely, so we ended up spending more time in the house than we expected. The board games & puzzles were a big hit, the fireplace In the living room the best place to play & the kitchen & bathrooms were well appointed. We also loved trying the pizza oven! Didn’t get a chance to use the sauna but would definitely come back to do so. Such a lovely week away!
