The room we had was uncomfortably hot and airless. The west facing room gets full sun and the Dyson fan provided just moves hot air around a stuffy space. Ironically, the corridor areas and reception were noticeably cooler. Perhaps we should’ve bunked down there for the night. The management should realise that even though it is commendable to be not using air conditioning, on environmental grounds, it is however important to provide guests with a comfortable environment temperature wise. The air flow that keeps corridors and public areas cool needs to be directed to the rooms to aid in comfortable sleep and shade screens need to be used at the front west facing side of the property. The sun was literally bouncing off the building and into the room. It was uncomfortable to stand by the window because of this. Do not recommend staying there in summer. Unbearably hot.

Amazing hotel! The staff are super friendly and accommodating. The room I stayed in was neat and tidy. Location is really convinient too, not too in the city where it can get loud but close enough to walk to.

Great staff, location and value. Like a decent one bed flat they leave loads of extras like coffees and teas but also detergent for the laundry washer dryer. Staff super helpful (i swapped rooms). Like all of NZ so far, hotels have been superb.

If it were not for the desk and bar staff, this place would have nothing. They’re trying their hardest to improve what are clearly fundamentally flawed design & hotel group management issues. There’s no AC, and it’s hot. The fans are minimally helpful & loud. The smells from the exhaust of each room move into the other rooms causing foul odors. The pans offered in the rooms w/kitchens have scratched up non-stick toxic coating. The soaps aren’t even from NZ and are terrible quality, bring your own. The nyc line of soaps and shampoo is the same line as what’s used in the spa, the spa staff isn’t trained well on what the ingredients are or what their services entail. None of the tvs work or get even local channels. weirdly bright lighting (no dimmers) yet very dark rooms & other flaws. To escape the heat, one can go to the bar or restaurant, which has decent food and excellent staff… but it closes early & also has no AC, so the relief is minor. The desk & bar staff — specifically Raphael, Martha, and Roman are so delightful that it really saved my trip — they had suggestions of what to do in the city and on specialized tours & tried their best to make up for everything the hotel lacks — there are simple but impactful changes that could be made to this hotel to completely fix the issues. Don’t book unless the price is dramatically low and you plan on being out of the room the majority of your stay.

There's a unique ambience about Abstract Hotel - while it reflects the busyness and funkyness of K-Rd, there's also feeling of seclusion and peace when you walk through the door. Interesting artwork, welcoming and accessible place and some nice touches in the rooms including the coffee machines. Highly recommended
