Braemar

Publié le 16 août 2024 sur HomeAway
Had a fabulous few days at the cottage in Braemar. The gardens of the cottage are lovely and were great when our grand children came to visit. Also good for our little dog, who could access all the grounds without the fear of him getting out. The views are also beautiful!

Nice place in a great location

A lot of thought has gone into the layout. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Location on the edge of Braemar was stunning.

Very good location

Publié le 2 sept. 2020 sur HomeAway
We enjoyed our stay in Braemar. The cottage, which is an annex to Morrone House, is beautifully situated and has an enormous garden. Communication with the owner and with the chap who manages the property was clear and helpful. The inside of the house is very nice, the kitchen and bathroom are well equipped and there is plentiful furniture and storage space. I quite enjoyed the selection of books too. Its worth noting the the layout of the bedroom(s) upstairs is quite unusual. There is one proper bedroom at the end of a mezzanine floor, with the remaining beds located on what could be described as a large balcony. For us this was fine, but for two couples it could be a bit awkward. All in all, we enjoyed it and would come again.

Great area to be, cottage okay

Publié le 6 sept. 2018 sur HomeAway
We have spent a week at “Morrone Cottage” with our two kids. The highlights of this cottage are definitely the large garden and the location, which allowed for a really lovely view and for starting excursions straightaway. When we arrived we were a bit surprised of the standard, the rooms, the beds and the extra fee for the power, because we had only seen the pictures and information of the “Morrone”-House at the website prior to booking (an experience we seem to share with other guests, judging by a previous review), which apparently really is of a high standard. However, after booking Anna has sent us a few files by email which we just haven´t read thoroughly enough, so we could have known – our fault. All in all we have spent a lovely time at Braemar and do not regret having stayed there.

Not what we hoped for.

Publié le 3 sept. 2018 sur HomeAway
Morrone Cottage has many excellent qualities - the position is great, within an easy walk of the village, and the view out to the hills over the garden is enchanting. Unfortunately we relied on the Owners Direct/HomeAway website description. This clearly states the property has two bedrooms. It does not. Two beds are in a separate room, the other two are on a landing/balcony area which is open to the living area and the occupants of the "real" bedroom have to go through it to reach the rest of the property (including the bathroom/toilet). Obviously there is no privacy possible. For our party of two adult couples, it was really not suitable and spoiled our stay. The sleeping areas are both under the roof with limited headroom and storage space. While on the subject of the website description, it suggests that linen and towels are provided. Only by hovering your mouse over the entry, do you learn you have to request them - for an extra charge. Some items of equipment were not present n the cottage when we arrived. In fairness they were provided very quickly when we raised the issue - but when the rental includes a hefty service charge, I have to ask why everything was not checked before we moved in? The kitchen equipment is fine - the cooker is good (electric hob and double oven) and a serviceable microwave and toaster and double sink (one small) are there. The cooking area is quite cramped, though. There is a shortage of work surfaces for food preparation and little room for food storage unless you use the floor level cupboards in the lounge area - OK for us, but if you have difficulty bending this will cause problems. The fridge is small and inconveniently placed, but there is ample extra fridge (and freezer) space in an adjacent outbuilding. The dining table fitted us four comfortably. The lounge is double height, with a decent TV in the corner. The WiFi signal proved strong, fast and reliable. Parking space is sufficient - you share the drive with Morrone House, and the same drive provides access to the next door property, so considerate parking is needed. I am writing this review from another holiday rental property in Scotland. It is 30% cheaper, has double the space and has doors on each bedroom. Morrone Cottage just doesn't seem like good value, even allowing a premium for the Braemar area.

Thank you very much for this detailed review, even though it is not as good as the 5* review we received from our guests the week just before you arrived! But to be clear - we DO provide all bed linen and towels and all electricity. Everything is included and there is nothing else to pay. Now let me reply to your points in detail. I am delighted that you enjoyed what you describe as “the many excellent qualities of Morrone Cottage”! Yes, the kitchen has a good new cooker with modern Ceran hot plate and double oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, small fridge, and as you say, there is an additional large fridge-freezer in the large drying room opposite the front door. I’m glad you enjoyed the double height lounge and that you found the WiFi signal “strong, fast and reliable”. The beds are all shown on the photograph in Homeaway. You didn’t contact me at all during your stay to ask about having the extra double bedroom which was available. You did write to say that one glass was missing, one of the high quality Portmeirion dining plates was cracked and that someone had removed the smoke alarm cover. Our manager, Carole replaced the glass immediately and brought you a replacement hair dryer as our normal one had apparently walked. Our electrician installed a brand new hard-wired smoke alarm from stock within hours on the same day. I ordered a new hair dryer the same day and it is already there. Thank you for letting me know about the cracked plate. I have already replaced it with two new ones. So thank you for being fair in writing, “they were provided very quickly when we raised the issue” By the way, I think you have a misunderstanding about the service charge. We make no service charge. What you call the hefty service charge is nothing to do with us. You paid that separately to Homeaway for their service to you. That is the Homeaway charge that they apply to all properties. It is not paid to us. I’m glad you found the dining table fitted you comfortably. As regards price, you paid £21 each per night in August which is almost identical to the price of the equivalent tiny wooden cabins with no garden right beside the busy main road at the entrance to the village. So we think that our high occupancy and this comparison make Morrone Cottage look very reasonable. Thank you again for taking the time to write this review and I am glad that you enjoyed what you describe as “the many excellent qualities of Morrone Cottage” and “the enchanting view out to the hills”. You’ll be very welcome to return any time when I hope we can easily iron out the difficulties you had.

Morrone Cottage

Publié le 17 mai 2018 sur HomeAway
The Cottage is delightful and Braemar is a quiet village with an excellent restaurant (The Braemar Lodge). The Cottage was clean, the wood burning stove worked well and the WiFi was good. The Cottage sits in a pleasant garden and wass very quiet situated near the end of road. We were surprised to have to pay for the cottage electricity, it is not covered by the rent but it was a reasonable cost. The Cottage has a mezzanine floor with a low roof which didn't suit my 6'2" height, (Banged head), The patio wouldn't lock so we kept valuables in our vehicle, although Braemar appears to be crime free. There is a Coop for food and the fish and chip shop freshly cooks your order. The 'HomeAway' adverts can be confusing. Pictures of Morrone House are used to illustrate Morrone Cottage as well (See picture attached to this review). A very enjoyable break.

Dear Bill, Thank you very much. I'm very glad you enjoyed your stay and liked the cottage. Yes, I agree - the Wi-Fi is good with a strong signal. The patio door does lock - it is a modern double-glazed door and you need to raise the white lever as well as turn the key. In reply to your question about fuel, the reason we charge for electricity separately is that small parties in the summer use less than, e.g. a larger number in winter. Different people also have quite different usages. So if we averaged the cost out and added it to the rent, then small parties in summer would subsidize larger parties in winter. So we think it is fairer to charge just for what people use exactly according to the meter readings as you would at home. We just use the meter readings at the beginning and end of your stay and since there is a night storage white meter for both heating and hot water, it is reasonably cheap as you say.
