I am absolutely crushed by this one star review. Stephanie Westercamp left a lovely review in the guest book and I enjoyed their visit. The kids were well behaved and I had some fun conversations with them while I was out in the mornings with my dogs. They were NOT accused of stealing a paddleboat. Once I realized that a paddle boat was missing I called and texted Stephanie several times. She never returned my messages so I had to file a claim before it was too late. I never indicated to VRBO that the paddleboat was stolen. Sometimes guests leave a watercraft in the lake and if it is not tied up secerely it can float away. This is NOT the same as accusing someone of stealing.. This is what I wanted to talk to her about. Her non response puzzled me. The paddleboat was found and I canceled the claim. I still have not spoken to Stephanie. I do not need to file a false claim to pay for new flooring for the upstairs bedroom/bath area. I have a fund for replacing and improving the property so it is the best for guests' enjoyment. This accusation is quite a stretch and has no basis in reality. I did need to order flooring asap in order to get the best price and availability. I asked if they minded if I came in and measured as I wanted a most accurate square footage when I ordered. She was very agreeable. It took me less than just a few minutes to measure the area. Had she said no I would have used my best guesstimate to order the flooring. It is never my intent to inconvenience the guest or intrude on their visit and enjoyment of the property. BTW I do not have cameras EVERYWHERE. As a responsible host and property owner I have 2 ring cameras clearly disclosed in my listing. One covers the driveway and entrances. The other covers the backyard. The backyard camera was offline during their visit because the wifi extender accidently got disconnected. Cameras are only reviewed if there is an issue as in this case and I realized that there was no recording of the backyard/lakefront. I don't have the time or motivation to sit and watch cameras while guests are here. The motor that she refers to is on the end of a dock and it is an aerator that keeps the lake area free of weeds. The blade is inside a cage and is not exposed nor does it create a danger to anyone near the motor. Had they asked me I would have explained it to them and could have even shown them a picture of the aerator and how it is protected from creating any danger to anyone using the lake area around the aerator. No one from this family expressed any concern about the aerator while they were here. The food (condiments) in the refrigerator are all checked for expiry dates between visits. I am quite puzzled on how she could have found mayo that expired in 2021. I always ask if the guests would like to have me leave the condiments for their use. If they would prefer not to use the condiments I will gladly move them to another spare refrigerator outside of the vacation rental. Stephanie was happy to have me leave them. Had Stephanie noted any of these issues while she was here I would have immediately responded to correct any deficiencies. I would have loved to have hosted Stephanie and her family again but based on this review I would have to refuse any request for another guest stay. I again did try to call Stephanie once I read this review and she did not answer nor return my call.
