We arrived late at night to Les Etoiles, after a long journey by plane, boat and train, and were met with the warmest welcome by our hosts, Stefy and Alex. Too tired to do much but find our bedrooms and crash for the night, we woke up to the most spectacular view of Lake Como and the Alps beyond from the balcony of the house. It was like looking at a postcard—absolutely picture perfect. The same magnificent view was ours from the garden and terrace, with Bellagio and the villages across either side of the Lake laid out like jewels below. Although we had a car, we chose to walk into town and back—a pleasant 30 minute walk down through trails and cobble-stones streets, and a steep, climb back up that was rewarded by lovely views of mountains, flowers and Lake. A car is nice to have but a small car is recommended to negotiate narrow streets and access to Les Etoiles, which is tricky at night.
We enjoyed being on top of the world and planning which part of the Lake to explore from our vantage point. And it was always a pleasure to return to Les Etoiles after a long day, watching the evening sky change from violet to deep blue, a glass of wine in hand and feeling like we were tasting a bit of heaven.
Stefy was always available by phone/text to answer questions and make sure we had everything we needed. She and Alex were excellent hosts and helped make our stay at Les Etoiles and Bellagio a truly wonderful experience. Marea from Chevy Chase, MD.
