Avis The Highland Hideaway 5 Min to Five Points

SO. I booked this house for my out-of-town family to stay during my daughter's wedding. It took a minute to communicate with the host about an early check-in and then to get the check-in instructions. Probably because this is (apparently) a corporate rental and they are in Georgia. We got that figured out but when the first 7 guests arrived, there was inadequate cutlery (4 spoons, 1 fork, 7 knives), only 2 wine glasses and 2 coffee cups. We reserved for 10 guests and the listing claims it sleeps 13. 2 coffee cups and 2 wine glasses for 13 people? My sister tried to get help from the host, but at first they wanted to talk to only me. Problem was, I was occupied with wedding prep and could not talk. finally, after the second night of the 3-night stay, someone dropped off more cutlery and coffee cups. On the plus side, the beds were super comfy and the bunk beds were quiet with adults in them. The area is very convenient for both travel and entertainment. Across from a public golf course, near a drug store and a grocery as well as restaurants and with great access to main travel arteries. Sadly, the bathroom that serves most of the guests is so outdated that it looks nasty dirty. The tub is so used and battered it could be clean and wouldn't look it; same with the floor tiles. The bathmat is disintegrating. Also, there is no thresh hold on the back door so you can see daylight under it. Thankfully, we had ZERO problems with bugs, but as a local, that surprised me.

Close to downtown, every thing we wanted was close by, entire family had fun

Very convenient location. Comfortable beds but some of the extra comforters were very dirty. Bad lighting. I had to purchase light bulbs to replace the burnt out ones and dim ones which I left for the next guest. Just glad that grocery was across the street. Back patio was covered in leaves and thick dirt. Kitchen sink disposer was broken and I did not get a heads up on that. Also, back door bottom seal was not attached, leaning on the wall. Toilets did not flush everytime and even then not well. Skillets were very worn out and teflon was peeling, not healthy.

My family stayed for a week as we needed to be in Birmingham for the week due to family issues. The process was quick and easy and the property is located in a good neighbourhood next to a golf course and a CVS and Piggly Wiggly. We were well taken care of!

We have lived in Birmingham for 10 years and were staying here as a transition during our move. Plenty of space, very clean when we came in! It’s an older home with an older AC unit so it takes a while to cook down. There were several bugs in the kitchen but that’s Birmingham and especially older homes.

Bathrooms were not clean abd need to be updated. Great location and good neighborhood. Has a lot of potential if the updates are done. We ended up leaving after the first night.

Perfect place to stay in downtown. Quiet and safe neighborhood, good accommodations. Definitely stay there again.

Great location. I would provide a little warning about how steep it is getting up driveway. One person in our party had recent knee surgery so was a bit of a challenge but we managed. Everything was clean and as advertised. Awesome location.

We enjoyed a laid back weekend in Birmingham with our adult kids. We all had room to spread out and were able to eat outside on back patio. Love the location!
