Vacation on the farm

Publié le 11 oct. 2024 sur HomeAway
We stayed at the Arnold family home for a few days to hike in the Adirondacks’ fall foliage. The house was beautiful! The perfect location, not too far of a drive from any of our hikes (three brother and Phelps). The layout of the home was perfect for our family of mixed ages (50all the way down to 3 months). We hope to visit again next year! Perhaps a bit longer to get to enjoy the peaceful property around the home.

Didn’t work for us

Publié le 6 sept. 2023 sur HomeAway
We were two families with young kids. We enjoyed the ample house with many bedrooms, the toys for kids and the quite surroundings. We saw lots of deers which was really nice. Unfortunately, the wifi didn’t work at all for the whole stay. There was no phone connection in the area so we were left without communication and couldn’t plan our trips. The family was nice and tried to help with a map and travel guide books. However, it didn’t work for us. We really needed internet to use an app to plan our trips, get some work done, and play some movies for the kids. Furthermore, the dvd they provided didn’t work. They came and brought another one, which worked but without most colors. It wasn’t good. The house isn’t in great condition either - the back door didn’t lock well and often there wasn’t enough hot water in the shower. Kitchen also simple. But the bedrooms upstairs were lovely. Still worth it if you’re okay with not a fancy place, and looking for a quite and relaxed stay in nature. The owners tried to help. It was unfortunate with the wifi company.

On the day of guest arrival we were notified of a WiFi outage in our area. The guest was promptly notified of situation and efforts to rectify the situation were immediately initiated with our internet provider. Unfortunately, despite numerous calls and conversations with Frontier Communications, they informed us that they could not send a service tech out for 5 days. We voiced our dissatisfaction to Frontier for their lack of customer service, but to no avail. It was later determined that the issue was in fact outside the house and not our equipment but rather in the providers fiber optic line and beyond our control. Given the lack of response from the internet provider and concern for our guests discomfort and inconvenience, we immediately did what we could to reduce the impact of the situation on or guests. In a effort to assist our guests with hike planning, a family member personally delivered hard copy trail and hike information and made recommendations for family friendly outings. Although certainly not an ideal remedy , we also offered local options for public WiFi and even went to the extent of offering use of WiFi at our personal residence for guest work purposes in the event of an emergency. We also made an effort to replace the DVD player that was not functioning. We felt terrible about the lack of internet, and malfunctioning DVD player and offered our sincere apologies on several occasions. We also provided a $200 refund for their inconvenience. Our property is a restored 1890 farmhouse on 20 beautiful rural acres in the heart of the Adirondacks. WiFi has been very reliable over the years, but unfortunately not on this occasion. Our property offers peace, tranquility, quiet nights by the fire, spectacular star gazing and relaxing walks in the meadow and by the stream. It offers excellent access to hiking, biking, skiing, paddling, fishing and more, but is not a hotel in downtown Lake Placid and not for everyone. It is not perfect, but it is a clean, comfortable and charming farmhouse where you can escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy all the Adirondacks have to offer! While we feel terrible about the discomfort and inconvenience the WiFi outage caused and the fact that the DVD player was not functioning ,we feel confident we did everything we could to make the best of a bad situation and stand by our efforts to provide a high level of customer service despite the unfortunate circumstance! Phenomenal

Publié le 5 juill. 2023 sur HomeAway
We have stayed at this location twice. Each time was fantastic the location is the best. This year they added a canopy tent over the picnic table. It rained twice and we were still able to enjoy the outside and the phenomenal View of the mountains. You could hear the creek bubbling in the background and when it was warm out they loved to cool off in the creek. All the essentials Plus different tablecloths for our 4th of July dinner were available. The house is huge. It was extremely comfortable and clean and welcoming there was even a piano in the living room. We all loved it and highly recommend. Eric responded quickly to any questions I may have had.

We’ll Be Back!

Publié le 11 sept. 2022 sur HomeAway
Eric’s lovely farmhouse was a perfect spot for my two teenagers and me. We look forward to returning with a bigger crew, a longer stay, and taking advantage of more of the plentiful bedrooms! The house was perfectly located for kayaking, fishing, and hiking trips to Lake Placid, Catamount Mountain, Lake Eaton, and Chapel Pond. Close to the property, we enjoyed stargazing, wading and hunting crayfish in the nearby creek, and taking a couple of runs along the quiet roads. The house is super clean, the linens were fresh and plentiful, the main bathroom spacious, and the kitchen’s cupboards and drawers stocked with good-quality essentials. We also took advantage of the gas grill for a couple of burger nights, and the washer/dryer works well and looks new. The WiFi also works well, so when it wasn’t boardgame night, Netflix came up fine on the TV, and the living room’s couches and chairs are super comfortable for lounging and being teenagers. Finally, Eric was a terrific and responsive host when I had a question or three. We really appreciated his family home’s wooden floors and furniture throughout, and liked its simple charm and lack of fussiness.

Great for IronMan Lake Placid + family vacay

Publié le 1 août 2022 sur HomeAway
We were in the Adirondacks for IronMan Lake Placid with the addition of a family vacation. Because of this vacation piece, we wanted to stay somewhere a bit more off the grid than Lake Placid. We were immediately drawn to the farm property, the quiet, the lack of cars, and access to the local towns. This property provided all of this. The property itself is beautiful. It’s a small valley nestled into the surrounding mountains so the views you get are awesome. The little trails around the acreage are sweet for an evening or morning stroll. Star gazing is awesome since you’re protected from ambient city light. The isolation is just enough— you’re far enough away to feel genuinely unplugged while still close enough to the nearby towns for access to amenities. The house itself is an historic farmhouse, so going into it with this expectation is key. It was comfortable for our family with a 12, 14, 17 year old and 2 grand parents. The upstairs bedrooms have tons of sleeping space, and the downstairs bedroom is great for a little extra privacy. Even though you’re off the grid, there’s still decent wifi and TV in order to enjoy an evening family movie. The kitchen was stocked well enough for us to cook a variety of regular meals and eat together every evening while enjoying the view through the large dining area window. There was no air conditioning, but this was not a problem because the open windows were great for a natural breeze and kept the house comfortable, even with the high near 90 degree temps of several of our days. There were fans for every room as well. Eric communicated well, and was receptive of my questions, comments, and needs. He even gave suggestions on food and fishing. Bonus— there’s a River about a 4 minute drive down the hill that is a beautiful fishing and chilling spot. My sons and I caught bass and trout here, one was a 20” large mouth! And, the roads are immaculate and wonderful for cycling.

Peaceful Farmhouse Stay

Publié le 28 août 2021 sur HomeAway
Our family and friends spent 10 days here mid-August, with kids from 3yrs to 14 yrs old. We enjoyed every day here - meadow walks to splash in the creek, walks up the hill to pick raspberries, games outside on the grass, evenings with stunning sunsets, campfires, and shooting stars. I don’t think I’d ever get tired of watching the clouds roll over the mountains or the mist settle in the hayfields. This has been a great and much needed holiday for all of us. House was spotlessly clean on arrival, plenty of space for everyone, and 30-40 minutes drive got us to various hiking trails, swimming lakes, or towns for shopping. Definitely a great place to spend a summer vacation!

The farm had everything we needed

Publié le 10 août 2021 sur HomeAway
This was our second time at the farm. We were there for Lacrosse Tournament. Family filled the house and couple of players tented on the lawn. The location seems remote but convient to high peaks hiking and Saranac Lake. I never tire of driving the Ausable river to Lake Placid. Catamount Mt is the best day hike in the Adks.
