Be aware with booking with external property managers
I was not able to stay because the host was asking unreasonable requests that were not on the listing. In addition, VRBO is “not equipped” to help if there are issues because of a “separate payment software”. They were asking me to send my government issue ids via insecure methods even though normally they use a separate background check software. I tried to offer other solutions such as going through the validation site directly. For those unaware, this is sketchy and even though they say they have to delete your data you are sending it through cell phone providers etc so they can’t actually guarantee that your data will be efficiently deleted afterward since it is outside their control. In addition, they have to send it to the background check company, so that’s another area where your information may not be adequately deleted.
The VRBO support (except Jerico) and this property management company will tell you the requests are standard but in the same breath tell you that it’s only this way because their system is broken.
Overall it was a frustrating experience from both the property managements side and VRBO. Eventually it got resolved but it took multiple days and talking to multiple agents that were not understanding at all on my vacation which is still a sting.
