We stayed in the Judges Chambers. We enjoyed staying in a 19th century period room that had largely been restored in terms of furnishings. There were lots of detailed instructions in the room about the rules and what the area had to offer. The location is excellent, near to downtown and the waterfront. The kitchen was well stocked with coffees, teas, cream, etc as well as a good selection of cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, etc. The modern conveniences and decor installed when first renovated in the early 1990s (kitchen, bathroom) are tired and dated and some of the original and modern reproduction furniture could use some repair. I sense that the property would benefit from new energy. We were a bit disappointed that the host tried to shame us into tipping the cleaning staff ("they are single moms") as we felt that he was expecting us to offset possible exploitative wages. At these prices I expect the staff to be properly compensated by management.

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay, With refrerence to your misinterpretation of my comment re engaging only single moms .... I pay them very well and ask them to take all the time they need to ensure the guste experience is stellar, But they are part time as I only equire them from 1 to 3 hours per day. So despite paying them far better than my competition per hour it still means that life is a struggle as it is for so many single Moms whose ex does not provide any support ,, or worse. I do not tell anyone what they should do nor do I intend to imply it. It is merely information I think guests should have as part of theor decision process. Many guests do not tip and some tip very generously. That is totally their choice. As regards "at these prices" in my perception and travels I don't find even upscale hotels that provide a tea chest selection, a variety of coffees and real cream real milk and liqyud freench Vanilla Coffee mate in a full kitchen replete with lead crustal and bone china and a large garden with seating and a BBQ and waling distance from everything you can want to buy or do yet charging about the same rate as a chain standard hotel

Our stay was horrible. We were put in a dank cellar accessed through some kind of maintenance corridor. The rooms shown prior to booking look fine but if you end up in the cellar you will be horrified. Its underground with one exit so its also a fire trap. False advertising at its worst. The Expedia rating is still 10 despite 2 complaints. They gave me a refund but thats not what I want. I want the false advertising to stop. Ignore my warning at your own risk.

In my many years this is the worst review I have ever received. I jave earned two International and one national aware as the best uscale tradtional accomodation in Eastern Ontario. That would not be possible if this was an accurate reflection of my offering. In my view it based on this review and some communications with the guest it says more about the guest than the hotel. Be that as it may let me first address the "fire trap". This suite was designed in conjunction with the City Fire Prevention Officer and City Building Inspector in 2024, It is sprinklered.... 3 stairs and two steps from an outside exit, has a fire extinguisher and an interconnected smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector and the window is a regulation emergency escape window with wired safety glass which is above code requirements. The hotel has a 55,000 fire detection and alarm system inspected and tested monthly under contract. It is adjacent to my suite but I have a corridor first so it is better protected than I. And their are two exits from the sub basement where this economy suite is located. The statement that it is accessed through a maintenance corridor is untrue, It is accessed from the hotel rear door foyer and it a total of three steps and 3 stairs from the rear door of the hotel. The corridor is behind a curtain and is for access to my suite and housekepping. It is true that this is a half basement economy suite "The Butlers Suite" .....and priced accordingly ...But it has a full kitchen replete with a eurig Coffee maker and a variety of coffees leattee etc and a tea chest of 8 teas real milk and real cream and french vanilla coffee mate in the full sized refigerator and lead crystal glassware, wine glases and beer stein and bone china tea cups.. and that is just for starters. But as is my poloct,, regardless of the validity of the guests expereince as theu see it I refund money if a guest is dissatisfied,, and all this plus a garden and BBQ for less than a cookie cutter room (albeit with a larger bedroom area) at a chain hotel.. and downtown in walking distance of anything you might wish to but or need or dine. You be the judge!

Lots of space for the two of us. Bathroom was very modern. Full kitchen so if we were staying longer than one night it would have been very helpful. Very nice historic place

Its not for everyone but the extras...like great tv options, nice couches, lots of coffee, creamer and a great location make up for it.

Absolutely loved staying in the garden suit. Only a few minor things (didnt impact our stay) that could use attention.
-Bathroom could use some TLC.
-Wish the kitchen would have had more stuff provided, especially cooking oils and scissors.
-Wish the living room AC had guidelines, it was a little warm for my comfort.
Other wise such a wonderful unique place to stay amd the owner was lovely to speak with.
