Rain on a tin roof, train whistle in the distance, pumpkins carved, toasty fire burning, listening to Legend of Sleepy Hollow, does Halloween get any better?
We had a great time. 2 days of hiking - Spy Rock is a worthwhile climb but is a challenge. Definitely check out Mt. Grace, the place has a very special energy and is great for meditation and sunset watching. The walk down at twilight is safe enough just watch for your turns. Chessie trail is a fun, flat level walk. The dog had a blast with all the space. Then two days of laziness, pumpkin carving and listening to/watching the rain. A totally refreshing, energizing place. You DO need to be ok with darkness as it does get VERY dark, there are no street lights etc. Great for star gazing, we saw many constellations even without the aid of my telescope. The quiet was amazing. (We were a little surprised by a military jet flying about but it didn't stay long.)
The cabin is the way it looks in the pictures. But keep in mind that it is a country cabin, if you're looking for 4 star amenities this isn't the place. It has all the necessities, but is rustic. It could use a little maintenance and TLC but overall was cozy and comfortable. We brought our food and had everything we needed for simple meals. The only time we left was to buy pumpkins and hike. Communication with Antonia and the staff was wonderful. They made sure we had extra wood and answered all my crazy questions. The staff leaves you alone, we only saw one person preparing a cabin one day.
I can't say enough good things about this cabin. We kept saying how much the cabin reminded us of a favorite uncle's place. We're already talking about returning next year.
