Wonerful 50th birthday week
Posted Jul. 2, 2024 on HomeAwayWe love this house! The trees, the art, the snorkel and beach equipment, the location, it's all great! This was our second stay at Poi 13 and hopefully not our last. Mahalo

Beautiful and quiet location away from the crowds. Centrally located between Volcano and Kona allowing exploring both directions with our oasis to rest and rejuvenate. The last 3 miles of winding road is not for the faint of heart but the view is completely worth it.

Miloli'i, far south, rustic and relaxed. Great, but not for everyone.
Posted Jan. 9, 2024 on HomeAwayWe really enjoyed our stay, the property manager is awesome, and the place is exactly what it says it is, but we are not the typical travelers.
Location: This is near the fishing village of Miloli'i near the very southern tip of the west coast. Nearest "town" is Oceanview. Getting in and out involves driving a very steep and windy road, taking about 20 minutes each way at 15mph. It is almost exactly 1/2 way between the touristy "downtown" and the Volcano national park, about 1.5 hours to each. Speed limits on Hawaii are very low, and most roads one lane each way, with very limited places for passing, often stuck behind someone going slower than limit. Waze generally estimates the time accurately to within 5 minutes. Do the check before leaving, on wifi, because cell coverage is very spotty.
Property: really nice place, great furniture, layout, decor, art, amenities. Open plan, lots of light, all the comforts and tools of home, except no AC. Plenty of fans and ventilation. Lots of room. Room for a large party using the couches, beds, and hammock. Two caveats: Not much privacy. The bedroom does close, but any noise will be heard throughout the house. Also, the neighbor to the south is really close, and with windows open you can hear them (and presume they you). Mosquitoes everywhere on Island, so use OFF.
The area: Rustic. Local snorkeling not for beginners. Best beaches are Black Pebbles and 2 Step, both north on main road, about 45 min away.
Key is Relaxation.

Wonderful 12th anniversary trip
Posted May 5, 2023 on HomeAwayThis romantic seaside cottage lived up to it's claims. We loved the view, the art, the garden, and the lanai! Its well stocked with beach stuff and day trip supplies as well as games, books and movies. It's perfectly situated between great beaches on the kona side and the volcano park on the hilo side.

Sleep on a lava bed!
Posted Apr. 25, 2023 on HomeAwayComfortable nice quasi-off-the-grid home that enjoys sweeping views because the town is on top of a prior lava flow. I’d want other guests to know that it’s not close to anything but if you’ve got time to explore the island then you’re not particularly far from sights like volcano park either. It’s a quiet base to work from. There is a safer Miloii beach park 5 min drive away if “da rock” is just for confident swimmers. The gear cache (goggles kick boards chairs etc) was really appreciated! We loved kahalu u beach best. Amazing and easy for beginners

Just okay
Posted Mar. 27, 2023 on HomeAwayHad trouble with the electronic door lock which only worked intermittently. Never heard back from the owner about that.
And the clothes dryer didn't work. Otherwise our stay was just okay. The house was well stocked with kitchen and bath essentials.

Top Notch Beach Rental
Posted Mar. 23, 2023 on HomeAwayOur family of three adults enjoyed the homey accommodation this quaint beach rental offered us. Comfortable beds, full functioning kitchen, huge screened in lanai to relax and enjoy the sunsets and listen to the crashing waves. It was the perfect place for our getaway to the Hawaiian Islands!

We loved the house. Wish I would have looked at how far away it was from everything. The rain water catchment system was different but worked just fine. Next time I’ll look for a rental with washer and dryer.
