Delightful Inn

Publié le 23 oct. 2019 sur Hotels
Delightful in located blocks from the ocean in Castine. Really great breakfast, bikes available to use, good wifi. There was a power outage due to a storm while I was there and while the building didn't have a generator, breakfast was still served the next morning and I noticed very little difference to the inn's normal procedures. Just a small thing, I don't think the heat in my room was on and it felt about 10 degrees colder in there than in the hallway outside. This is likely not an issue for most people as they're there during warmer months.

Overall pleased but this inn is probably best suited for a few days (we booked a full week). Great location for day tripping up and down the coast with many beautiful sights to see. Prepare to be pretty disconnected - no TV which for us was slightly disconcerting as we like to keep current with the news. Breakfast was ok with a couple of selections that were repeating every couple of days. Dinner menu was the same every night with little to offer for my palate however it smelled good. Bar area is very eclectic and tiny. Room was small especially the bathroom but adequate especially if you are only using it to sleep. No A/C (not suprising in Maine) however we hit a very warm week so room was a bit uncomfortably warm even with ceiling fan on.

Somewhat Disappointing...

Publié le 18 août 2019 sur Hotels
We booked ahead and stayed for several days. Inn was very expensive for what it is. There is a restaurant that takes up most of the downstairs and the veranda starting at 5pm. You have to walk through small restaurant lobby to reach rooms. Attention was more towards gourmet & pricey restaurant and inn guests were sidelined. There didn't seem to be anyone available for guest needs except in morning for a short time. Need more fans in room and more lamps for reading near chairs. Most of the staff is seasonal and brought in from poorer former U.S.S.R countries. I felt worried the first day because there were all these attractive, young girls with limited English to wait tables and clean rooms. As a woman, I found it stressful because I started worrying that they were trafficked. After asking questions etc --I do not believe this was the case, but I would greatly appreciate it if the inn communicated exactly what school program the girls were were participating in and that they were receiving fair pay and time off. I asked about it, but the innkeeper was not available -- another staff member was able to give some vague information about where the girls were from-- but it would be appreciated if complete information was given to guests. This world is a cruel place, and I don't like having to worry about things like this while on vacation.

Hi Kristi, We are disappointed to hear that you did not fully enjoy your stay at the inn. It is our policy to make any needed changes for our guests to ensure that you have an outstanding experience while in our care. We have managers on call 24 hours a day to take care of our guest's needs. We have many students work for us during the summer, both local and international. Our international students are part of a work and travel visa program overseen by the State Department that allows college students from all over the world an opportunity to work at a sponsoring property. When they are finished with their work commitments they have the opportunity to travel through the US. We have proudly been participating in this program for 18 years, a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved. I'm sorry your concerns were not addressed while you were here. Julie

Even though the stay was pleasant, it was soured by the fact that the property has a no-refund policy, even though we tried to cancel our booking 5 min after making it due to a mapping error on Expedia. As a result, we will probably not go back, but a nice enough property if you don't need any flexibility.

The Pentagoet is a quintessential New England Inn. The breakfast was great, and we wish we had eaten in the restaurant. The only thing we’d change is the bed...to one a bit more comfortable. The bed was sagging a bit and quite uncomfortable.

On arrival very hard to get attention of staff. Lovely old inn that seemed slightly down at heel. Only large fan in window rather than a/c--which to be fair in coastal Maine is not usually needed. But fan in window set up rather clunky and not use-friendly. Very comfortable bed but main light in room didn't work. Breakfast was only ok. Waffles dry and not really edible. Also hard to get someone's attention to check out, had to wait and call out for a long time.
