Completely renovated in January 2022, Highland Cottage offers the perfect location in laid-back James Island, a suburb of Downtown Charleston. Ideally located 4 miles from Historic Downtown Charleston and 7 miles from Folly Beach. The cottage is equipped with a full-service kitchen with brand new appliances, Rinnai gas hot-water heater and outdoor grill. Within a one-block easy walk, you have access to many restaurants and one block from Starbucks. We are also only 1 block away from the closest public bus stop with access to Downtown Charleston. Beach chairs and a cooler are onsite and available to our guests. Great affordable option for visiting Charleston.

The listing was spot on! Kit, the owner, is absolutely amazing! She truly went above and beyond for us. Our last-minute stay, due to a family member in the Charleston Hospital, was made so much easier thanks to Kit's incredible hospitality. She is truly a fantastic owner!The house was even better than my own home. The little details were lovely. The outdoor space with a fire pit and grill was a nice touch. The beds were super comfy and there were plenty of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. The drive to Charleston Hospital was a breeze, which was the main reason for our stay at the VRBO. I highly recommend both the owner and this charming little VRBO! I can't wait to come back for a vacation under better circumstances and simply enjoy visiting Kit and her beautiful home! 2 Weeks on James Island
My wife and I spent 2 weeks over the 2024 Christmas and New Years. Or stay at the cottage was very convenient for us. Shopping and restaurants were abundant and workout facilities were a plus, all in waking distance. The cottage was well stocked and clean. Beds were comfortable.

Could not say enough great things about this rental!! The Host was SO helpful and accommodating to our group. The house was a hidden gem, was so clean, beautiful and the perfect size. The rental is a short Uber ride to downtown.

Tremendous Stay
Everything was perfect. She has everything a person needs in this apartment-coffee, laundry supplies, shampoo, beach towels and chairs, and when I enquired about an issue, she was there taking care of it the next morning (and it was a very minor question). Location was so convenient to Folly Beach, downtown, plantation and restaurants within walking distance.

Perfect Stay!!
My boyfriend and I planned this trip to the beach with the intentions on being in a location that would allow for easy access to multiple beaches and locations throughout Charleston. The location was perfect and allowed for us to explore not only Folly beach (just a short 12 minute drive), but Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island, and Kiawah. The place itself was cute, clean, and well maintained. One of our favorite amenities was the grill and the fire pit. The kitchen had everything we needed from a blender, to dishes and plates. The beach chairs and cooler was a plus. Being able to rinse our items off after the beach with the outside shower and hose was also awesome. I would highly recommend this place for couples or a family. I would definitely return. The 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms allow for privacy and space. This also ended up being (to my surprise) my engagement trip so our wonderful experience at the property just make my week perfect!!!

Comfortable & Quiet Vacation Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at this comfortable cottage in its quiet & well situated neighborhood. We were close to the beaches & downtown Charleston. The restaurants, Martin’s & Gillies were very good & in walking distance. This house was clean & well stocked with everything you need for a great vacation. Our only issue was the television & if you’re used to streaming your programs it won’t be an issue. We highly recommend this cozy little place.

Perfect location, great host
Firstly to say how helpful,kind and friendly Kit is. She really goes out of her way to ensure you have the best experience possible. The property is in an ideal location with easy access to Charleston and Folly beach - although would definitely recommend you have a car. The neighbourhood is quiet and lovely , and there's a reasonable bar and restaurant at the top of the road. The accommodation was good, clean, comfortable, well stocked. There are even beach chairs and umbrella provided. That's in addition to the tandem, although we didn't test that out !! Would happily stay here again, and highly recommend.

Great Charleston hospitality
The property is newly renovated; it is lovely and welcoming inside. I did not have a chance to enjoy the outdoor seating, although it looked very nice. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with amenities; the dining/living room area has a great tv. The heating units work very well and are quiet. The house is well lit inside and out. We made our way to the bus every morning; it was an easy trip downtown. Kit really went above and beyond. She checked in with me both before and after I arrived. When she heard I did not have a car, she graciously gave me a lift to and from the grocery! That was a great help. I will definitely consider staying at one of her properties on future visits to the area. I gave location 4 stars because the main road nearby is really not walkable - although the bus (and a nice bbq restaurant) is close by. With a car, I would give it 5 stars.

We’ve stayed in many rental condos & homes. We don’t like to leave negative reviews because we don’t want to hurt feelings or ratings. But we personally use other’s reviews for decisions. My husband & I spend too much time & money on vacations to waste either. This is a duplex, which is not indicated in the listing. It wasn’t a problem for us, but it might be a deciding factor for others. The unit smells musty. The owner said it was because the heat must have been turned on the first time this season. However, each day we left and came back (within a week), it still smelled musty. The floors looked clean, but left the bottom of our socks black. There is one small tv in the den, none in bedrooms. All of the kitchen cabinets were low, which meant we had to bend over constantly to reach cookware and dinnerware. With a bad back, that was limiting. Each bed is full size, kinda small for 2 adults. The unit is centrally located to the beach and Charleston. The washer/dryer are nice. Beach chairs (straps broken) & towels were useful. Judy, the handy-woman, is very helpful. It’s a fairly quiet neighborhood. Folly beach is about 6 miles away. Attention ALL VRBO landlords, We pay a cleaning fee. Therefore, we no longer will remove or wash bed linens when we leave, especially at 4 AM to catch a flight. Nor will we haul the trash cans to the curb & back. We’re on vacation. The cost was reasonable, but for the musty odor, we won’t be back.

Safe and peaceful
This location is in a safe, quiet neighborhood. Wonderful BBQ restaurant in the back door. Wood for fire pit outside. Quick drive to Charleston or folly beach. Kit is wonderful to deal with. We really enjoyed our stay here.
