Sonder check in experience as a first timer was super easy! Great instructions and no issues entering or exiting the property. Property was in great condition with all the amenities you could need. Only downside was the cigar bar downstairs... you could at certain times of day smell the cigar scent in our room upstairs. Not a huge issue, but if you were sensitive to the smell it would not be ideal.

NOT a hotel, just priced like one.
THIS IS NOT A HOTEL. There is NO staff. There are signs on the walls claiming that you can call talk to someone any time, but if you call the number it tells you to use the app, but the app says call the number. NOBODY will help you. I tried to cancel but there is NO way to get out of the reservation. On the outside it is easy to miss because it's just a plain door with a small sign, basically an old tenement bldg. It is supposed to be a smoke-free property but I was breathing HEAVY smoke EVERY time I was in there, you certainly can't open windows, and again, no staff and no way to cancel my reservation, It was so bad I had to use a telemed doctor and walk to Walgreens and get a rescue inhaler. Getting in and out was a huge ordeal because you need to use a code on your phone every single time. The water pressure in the shower was almost nothing. The place was clean but the two upholstered chairs in the kitchen were filthy (one was broken). Bed was hard as rock and no way to adjust thermostat (set at 68F) I am beyond furious with no recourse. If I knew it was an unstaffed tenement I would NEVER have booked it. Worst "hotel" stay ever. And by the way if there is no staff it should NOT be priced this high, there is literally nothing to justify the crazy high cost.
I so enjoyed staying on jewelers row at the Sonder property In Chicago. It was very close to the places I was visiting so I could walk everywhere. It was noisy because of the L train, yes, but when you’re inside, you Barely hear the train. I felt very safe getting into the building and getting up to my room. It was so well appointed. You thought of everything! I just wish I had longer than three days in Chicago and I hope to come back. I would rent the same apartment again without a doubt!
Sonder Jewelers Row was perfect for my 3 night stay in Chicago. It’s right next to millennium park which is a perfect visit after landing to start the trip. They are right next to most major public transit systems which is much more economical than taking Lyft or taxi around the city to most major attractions and dining experiences.
The room was clean and equipped with a full kitchen and amenities if you’re looking for a more intimate and extended Chicago experience. You can easily cook several meals to save some money.
The wash room was clean and provided the essential soap, hair products, and even a tube of complimentary lotion.
This location was also located above a cigar shop if you’re into that. The aroma can be smelled from street.
Loved it. Thank you!

First and last time for Sonder
Broken central air, TV would not work properly, dryer vent had a red light lit indicating it was faulty, nonworking coffee pot that leaked all over the kitchen counter, pasta sauce splatter on the wall in the kitchen, glass globes in the bathroom were filthy. They placed a portable AC floor unit in the studio apartment that was loud enough all night that I couldn’t sleep. You’re only way of contacting them for issues is by texting. Very frustrating method of communication. Need I say more? For four hundred a night, never again. At least in a hotel, I could pick up the phone or walk down to the front desk for assistance. To me, Sonder is a complete rip off and not priced appropriately.
I recommend this property overall. The only negative detail about our stay was that there was a large air conditioning unit on the floor in the main living/kitchen area. It was very loud. However, without out it, I assume the rental would not be as comfortable temperature wise.

Honestly, the only thing going for this property is the proximity to landmarks and train stations. There’s no lobby, no bathrooms while you wait for your room. Elevator was super slow and broke down while we were there. We had to go up and down 5 flights of stairs. Then we needed a code to get into each floor from the stairs and the chat team had to retrieve it because they didn’t know it. The sink in the bathroom was clogged and overall the cleanliness needs improvement. Their slogan is “a better way to stay” and I have to disagree. It’s definitely just “a way to stay” but Sonder properties always need so much more care and attention.

If you consider Sonder and this property here's what you need to be aware of: 1) There's no guarantee that you will be able to easily get into the building or your room. I stood in the hallway outside my room for almost 10 minutes at 12:30am using the "Chat" function of the app because the code didn't work. 2) Don't expect a cool room. The AC in the room didn't work. I was moved to another room, but even that AC wasn't strong. There are fans above the beds, and that's the best you're going to do in staying cool. 3) The entrance to the building is a little dicey looking. 4) The elevator had a very funky smell throughout the visit.
Initially we had an issue with access. However, I used the chat function on the Sonder App and had an immediate response with a new access code. They were very helpful. The property had everything we needed for our stay. Ideally positioned for sightseeing. Everything in walking distance. Fabulous breakfast at Goddess & The Bakery next door.
Only slight negative is the bed base is larger than the bed. The wooden corners stick out. Which means stubbed toes and bruised legs. We soon learnt to be careful manoeuvring around the edges.

Great location. Couldn’t hear the L. Everything on our to do list was in walking distance. The elevator has a cigar odor from the lounge but it didn’t go up to our room or floor.
The AC thermostat was not working and the summer was just getting underway. The last night of my stay was sweltering. The ceiling fan could olny do so much. No one was at the property to respond to my request.

Great stay in Chicago
We had a wonderful stay in the very comfortable apartment. I chose it for the location near Millenium Park and because it was a one bedroom. The apartment had excellent furnishings and faciilties. We had two difficulties during our stay, with the AC and with the washing machine, and both were solved quickly by the staff. They were responsive and went the extra mile to be sure everything was okay. We were also right over the L train, but with AC running I didn’t even notice it and slept great. We’d be happy to stay there again.
Spacious but the elevator jolted about half the time you went up and the blinds were see through. If you are a light sleeper, you can hear the train every 15 minutes at about the volume of an air conditioner.
