Like you, we do love how close the house is to the beach and that it is such a short, easy walk. I am happy that you took advantage of our beach cart and beach toys! I am disappointed to see that you got stung by a jelly fish and that you had a less than 5 star time. Your review is disappointing considering all that I did to assist you. I do my utmost to make every stay a great one, often bending over backward to please guests: such as allowing you to continue your stay in my home despite lying on the reservation (or forgetting to list the correct # of people you were bringing) and bringing more guests than are allowed in my home. I appreciate that you paid for your guest count after I discovered it, but I have to say that there is a reason I only allow 10 people and I don't really appreciate you "miscounting" and failing to tell me and then requiring me to contact you and VRBO to get the matter addressed. You gave me little to no way to handle the matter other than to allow it, or kick you and your 8 children out. I chose to allow it and you don't appear to be very grateful. Jellyfish are a natural part of any water system and have been part of the Potomac River forever. I usually don't have to tell people that fish exist in the water, but I do ALWAYS advise them to buy jelly fish spray and give them advice on how to avoid the little critters. I don't know when the fish will be there, will be bothersome, or when they will find their way to your child. But I do always try to warn guests to protect their children. As I mentioned to you, Amazon sells a jellyfish spray that gets great reviews. I suggested buying it, but you didn't buy it. Lack of research or protection is really your responsibility as a parent. I did my best to warn you. The spray I suggested would have helped avoid the jelly fish issue. So sorry your little was stung! I wish I could have fixed that for you somehow. I certainly tried. The mattress in the Master Bedroom is new and high quality. I cost me over $1,800 from JC Penny, is an inner spring mattress with a built in foam topper, and is most assuredly not old. It is perhaps 4 years old, so it is not in need of replacement. How awful that you'd flippantly suggest that, knowing it would hurt my business. Atop this mattress I have a $400+ Cuddle Ewe wool pad/topper. Additionally I use 2 mattress pads to ensure my expensive mattress and topper doesn't get stained by guests and their children who eat in my bed. I spend so much time and money making it comfortable because it is my home and I love being comfortable. I'm sorry my luxury mattress didn't meet your particular comfort needs. It is certainly hard to guess if a mattress will be your particular style when you rent, but I assure you this mattress is comfortable, firm, and not old! I appreciate your unsolicited advice on my expensive mattress. I worked hard to make your visit pleasing. I advertise that the house is for no more than 10 people. You claimed you were a party of 10, then brought 12 and didn't tell me before arriving or properly complete the reservation form. I had to find out after the fact. Rather than not allowing your stay due to the fact that you broke the 10 person requirement clearly listed for this home, I was forced to allow it and VRBO sent the adjusted fee. While I appreciate that you "paid", I made it clear that this home is for a maximum of 10 people. I don't appreciate being lied to and then being forced to adjust on the day you and your 8 children have moved in. I also provided sleeping bags for the kids, blowups for the kids, 8+ free folding beach chairs, several cooking spices, 50+ napkins, 1 new roll of paper towels, 6 water bottles and 3 rolls of toilet tissue per bathroom. I provided trash bags for each trash can, extra kitchen trash bags, and a large outdoor trash can for your group. And despite your claim, the house is well equipped for cooking for a crowd with a microwave, double oven, blender, multiple baking pans, multiple cooking sheets, 12+ bowls, 12+ plates, silverware for 15, spoons for 20, 2 kid utensil sets, a booster seat, toaster, 10+ wine glasses, 5 travel cups, 1 sippy cup, 12+ coffee mugs, 4 plastic cups, Kuerig coffee maker, 20 paper plate holders, 2 large frying pans, 1 small frying pan, 1 stockpot, 4 cooking pots, 2 square cooking pans, 1 rectangle cooking pan, 10+ cook knives, a full set of cooking utensils, spray oil, vegetable oil, etc. It is perfectly set up to cook for a family or a group. As you stated the house is great. And it is! It is cute, immaculately clean, with luxury touches throughout. All the linens are designer from Pottery Barn, Ralph Lauren, Martha Stewart, or are vintage quality linens. Every bed has a blanket and throw blanket. Every room has a ceiling fan. There are 2 thermostat systems: 1 for the upstairs and 1 for the downstairs. The big kitchen has a gas stove and soft close cabinetry. And the location is literally a block from the beach. I don't have to "sell" my home, but I do provide the best experience I can. I alert folks to naturally occurring jelly fish and suggest a fix, and I provide suggestions for fun places to eat and play. As a woman running a business, I am disappointed that a fellow woman felt it necessary to disparage my home: my bed and kitchen, and not focus on all the wonderful things you received. It is a tough business environment and you certainly didn't support this woman in her quest to please you, bend over backward for you 10+ group, or provide a supremely clean and comfortable home to vacation in with your friends. Better luck next time.

Thanks for coming Vanessa! The Beach House neighborhood is filled with vacationers and the young and older alike. It definitely is for middle aged people, as well as anyone who needs a quick beach break. My 29 year old daughter loves to run around the peninsula: what we call "the point". You get a water view the whole time. We love to eat at Dockside Restaurant and Tiki Bar watching the giant ships sail or motor in, slurping up their delicious drinks, and enjoying their live music and sandy private beach. Los Hermanos has a to-die-for 4-piece Margarita taste test that is sure to bring you pleasure and let you get your tipsy on, and you can WALK back to the house! Ice House Marina, also within walking distance, has the best vibe and is a wonderful sunset location, where you can try a new brew or relax with a glass of wine after a day of fishing. The Potomac does have fish in it, including jelly fish. I always recommend jelly fish spray from Amazon; it has GREAT reviews and helps those who are unfamiliar with the smaller jellies that come in all the way from the ocean. We also get dolphins! The water of a river FLOWS and the Potomac is one of the fastest flowing rivers so it isn't turquoise like it might be in an ocean or in the Caribbean. The water is tested regularly, and we have a delightful breakwater and pier that so many love. And a boardwalk too. Just a couple hours from DC and without the long commute over a bridge or tunnel, many love our beach: the 2nd largest in Virginia. Colonial Beach is a quaint retro city; it might not be for everyone but it is delightful and fun with many good beach, winery, brewery, small town, and tourist options! Colonial Beach is a cute little retro resort town and I'm glad you loved it! We are situated on the Potomac River in Westmoreland County, Virginia, right at the inlet to Monroe Bay. The city has a several great beaches reminiscent of the beautiful beaches in larger cities, but with small town diners, inexpensive close-in parking, and adorable beachy homes. Boundary Street, where my home is located, is about a block and a half from the beach and a block from Monroe bay. The culture in Colonial Beach is much more laid-back small town than mammoth Virginia Beach, with everyone renting or owning a golf cart and waving to one another as they pass by on the street.
