Just Great

Make sure you know what you are signing up for. This is supposed to be a fun rustic experience and that's just what it is. Its a mile or so on a dirt road any car can make it down. Its a beautiful little ranch made to look like an old western town. Its not really roughing it but its not a modern living space either. I highly recommend this place! Just give it a shot!

An amazing unique spot

The property owners were delightful. The place was enchanting, and having the horses around made me feel at home. Would highly recommend and stay here anytime I'm in town.

Sandhill Crane Viewing

Publié le 21 mars 2024 sur HomeAway
The Robertson family were so incredibly kind, accommodating and informed. My daughters and I had the trip of a lifetime. We stayed in the schoolhouse on their horse ranch. Their ranch is built as an old western town. We fell in love with their horses, goats, and donkeys. The Robertson family took my middle daughter and I on a wonderful horseback ride. It had been a number of years since my last ride and I was a bit rusty, they provided us with some of the best riding instruction we had ever received. Additionally, their ranch is only a few miles from the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge where we were able to view the Sandhill Cranes, it was an amazing experience! I cannot recommend the High Plains Drift Inn and the Robertson family highly enough, we will definitely be back!

Great evening

This would be a must on my list for places to stay. Authentic, Genuine, Drop Dead Gorgeous Views and overall great time. The owners are warm welcoming and friendly. I would recommend to anybody looking for an experience in addition to a stay. Beats any hotel, regular home, condo, yawn. This place you won’t forget, talk about to everyone, and long to stay at again.

A Fun Escape from the City!

Publié le 23 juin 2023 sur HomeAway
We stayed in the cabin for one night, preparing for a ride on the Cumbres and Toltec railroad the following day. My sons loved petting the horses and jumping on the trampoline, and I loved the stargazing at night. The family that owns the ranch was very friendly and even though we declined their offer of dinner (I have a lot of food allergies), they gave us hot chocolate and tea. When they heard that we are musicians, they invited us to play on an antique piano that came to Colorado on a covered wagon, so it was really a unique and memorable experience for the kids. A couple of things to be aware of: The cabin is all solar, which is fantastic, but there is no power outlet, just a cute little USB charging station for phones. So, hopefully you're not emotionally attached to your hair dryer. Also, the final leg of our trip was on a bumpy gravel/dirt road, which was totally manageable in our Tesla, but prepare yourself for slow going and a dusty car! Thanks for your hospitality!

Visiting from Texas

Publié le 18 juin 2023 sur HomeAway
When I first booked this trip, I was concern as it only had three reviews. I am very happy that I decided to go for it. My family (kids ages 5 and 9) had the most amazing time at the Inn. It was like you were stepping back in time, everything was very rustic. The kids spent hours with the horses, goats (including newborns), ponies, chickens, and baby bunnies. They also offered horsebackriding and the kids were head over hills! The people there were warm, friendly, hospitable. They treated us like family. We walked away with tons of memories and had the most amazing time. We will definitely come back again and visit the Inn.

Great Escape!

Publié le 8 avr. 2023 sur HomeAway
We were looking for a quiet place to recharge our batteries and boy did we find the right place! Our hosts were gracious and welcoming and included us in breakfast (for a very small fee) as well as some day-trip planning. Everything felt so remote yet so cozy, close, and homey at the same time. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. We only had two nights so we have to go back and see more of the sorrounding valleys and mountains. Beautiful spot!
