Family reunion

Publié le 13 août 2024 sur HomeAway
We had reunion in the area. It was convenient. The home has three areas main bedroom, up one bedroom and down 2. Each of the 3 areas had a full bath. Lots of space, great working kitchen and lots of seating. We enjoyed the wrap around porch and the country air overlooking the pastures and animals. Fire pit out back with a stack of wood was inviting. Enjoy your stay.

Communing with Nature

Publié le 9 juill. 2024 sur HomeAway
First of all, a warm thank you to Maurine, our hostess, who not only provided an absolutely beautiful home and loads of friendly and engaging animals for us to enjoy, but shines in her role as protector of the old, broken down and unwanted creatures who now have a home in her care. Our family of 6 is chock full of animal and nature lovers, so we had a truly wonderful visit. The guest house is a warm and welcoming place, decorated with French country charm and features a huge great room, wrap-around decks, chef's kitchen, a piano, fireplaces, 3 floors of rooms, great amenities and plenty of space for relaxing. The outdoors are shady and include a fire pit, which our family used almost every night. There were kayaks to take to the nearby lake, and a little dock where we fished as well. We watched sunrises and sunsets, and felt truly at home. But above all, the farm itself was the most wonderful part of our stay. Animals were everywhere, and we literally had free reign to walk around and "play" with them all day. It was not unusual to see us up in the morning in our pj's walking around looking for the kitties, or sitting on the porch waiting for the "jail break" when the goats were let out of the barn. We walked the long driveway lined th paddocks for the horses on each side, and made friends with them as they nuzzled our hands. Bottom line, if you love interacting with nature, you will not be disappointed here. Once again, Maurine, thanks again for your hospitality.

Rescue animal farm

Publié le 24 sept. 2023 sur HomeAway
This farmhouse is in a rural area of Columbiaville with many varieties of animals wandering around! All very friendly! It sets way off the road and you have to manually open a gate to enter/ leave! The farmhouse beds are comfortable and plenty of room to sit for groups! There are no chairs around the bonfire so that was disappointing! Big front porch tho to sit on and watch the animals roaming around.

Good location for a getaway but a few caveats

Publié le 29 août 2023 sur HomeAway
Overall, the location was remote and quiet (what we had hoped for) and the house was spacious. The overall property was great and backs up to Holloway Reservoir. There were many things that were a bit rough around the edges, rougher than should be expected, like missing siding on the back of the house, chewed up and scratched doors and trim throughout, loose boards on the deck, etc., but it was expected to be a bit less refined and more rural, so it wasn’t a deal breaker. The animals milling about, specifically the goats (and the baby goat most of all) were our two girls favorite part of the whole weekend. The fireflies in the field behind the house was also wonderful. We had rented the property for my niece’s small wedding. We had hoped the barn would be done before hand (as Maurine had promised) but construction delays happen, so we made adjustments and it worked out in the end. The only real negative was miscommunication with Maurine around her bringing up additional fees we needed to pay the evening before we left (beyond the rental fees through VRBO, which we had paid on time and in full). It left a large mark on an otherwise wonderful weekend. Hopefully, that issue won’t happen with any future events that she hosts. Due to the miscommunications, we would definitely not be interested in renting this property again, but would say that it is good for a small group getaway.

It was unfortunate for all parties concerned regarding the miscommunications and misunderstandings. Phone numbers between VRBO owners and VRBO guests are not exchanged until a reservation is secured. After receiving your phone number I made several attempts to speak to you and clarify things. Communication was sketchy at best because one of us was traveling and in a bad cell area. There was also great distance between our areas and both of us were quite busy. Those issues may have hindered our communication. Certainly our conversation should have been followed by an email and contract. Please forgive me for being remiss in that. However, it is unfathomable to believe you can have a "small" event with 75 plus guests, 30+ cars, 2 portable bathrooms, a tent, tables and chairs , loud music into the night, a mechanical bull, three nights of MANY guest on and off of the property and generate enough trash to fill up more than a 5 yard dumpster, with NO additional compensation. Thank you for recommending that the property is better suited to small group getaways. Your advise is well appreciated.

Wonderful Week

Publié le 3 août 2023 sur HomeAway
We stayed at the farm house for a week. The house is beautiful and very comfortable and clean. One of the previous guests left a bad review and stated it was dirty, it's a farm, bring some boots! It was a great experience to get to know the animals and learn their personalities, they looked forward to the carrots and sliced apples every day as much as we enjoyed treating them. So much work goes into caring for these sweet animals and Maurine does a great job, she even took time out to show our grandson the baby ducks. It was also just a short walk to the Holloway Reservoir where we had some luck with some nice size catfish. I'm thankful for the week we shared with the horses and goats! Thanks Maurine!

A magical farm and home.

Publié le 1 août 2023 sur HomeAway
We have stayed here multiple times and enjoyed every visit. A true farm experience; you can feed and spend time w/horses, goats, sheep and more. My son and his friends were in heaven interacting w/and feeding all the animals. We fished and canoed in the river bordering the property. Maurine is a wonderful host and a huge animal lover, whose farm is home to many injured and rescued creatures. Goats saved from auctions are living their best lives, roaming free, chomping hay and hanging out. Retired race horses graze in pastures, a blind pig, a goose who thinks he is a goat, a very elderly donkey, named Sassafras, and so many more reside here. The home is gorgeous, well-appointed and so welcoming. We love making meals in the huge kitchen, sleeping in the amazingly soft beds and listening to nature from the windows. All of this is not to say that you don't need good boots, the knowledge that barns/farms are messy and sometimes smelly places. The roosters crow loudly in the morning and the fences will always need painting. We discovered Maurine's farm during the pandemic and it has quickly become a happy place for our family. We hope other discover the magic we have felt here.
