A Remote Oasis
Posted Sep. 27, 2024 on HomeAwayFirst of all, the lodge is exactly as portrayed in the pictures. We absolutely loved our 8 day stay in in this remote and quiet countryside. Lough Carra was beautiful, and we had sheep out front and dairy cows in the back. Beautifully landscaped as well. The caretakers, Jim and Mary were exceptional. We chose this place because we waned private and and countryside. We got it. It was the perfect base for our wanderings in Co. Mayo, Co. Galway and Connemara.
My only sugesstion is for clearer driving directions. We would not have found it if not for Padrick, who escorted us there. The house was also stocked with essentials, and Mary baked us a welcome pie. There are two grocery stores in Ballinrobe for those who wish to prepare their own meals.
We would definitely stay here again.

We loved it!
Posted Jul. 10, 2024 on HomeAwayEverything was fantastic! It's aways nice when the place looks exactly like the photos. What we didn't expect was the the caretaker was so wonderfully responsible and helpful. We even got to sample his wife's rhubarb pie! I highly recommend Brownstone Lodge.

Great stay at the Brownstown Lodge
Posted May 21, 2024 on HomeAwayWe spent two lovely weeks at the Brownstown Lodge. The house is spacious and comfortable. It was a good base for our exploration of western Ireland. Thomas responded immediately to our texts. Jim and Mary were wonderful hosts. There was cake and a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers waiting for us upon arrival. Midway through our stay, Mary brought us a delicious homemade rhubarb crisp! We loved the peaceful country setting. We are in a hotel now in Dublin. . .missing the comforts of the Brownstown Lodge!

Wonderful
Posted Oct. 9, 2023 on HomeAwayWe absolutely loved Brownstone Lodge. Perfect location near Lough Carra in County Mayo. We were able to do some fishing when the weather allowed. The remoteness of the location was amazing, so quiet and so peaceful. And the lodge was well stocked, clean and spacious. We enjoyed the company of our caretakers and they made sure that we had everything that we needed. We had a lovely time and we cannot wait to come back!

A Piece of Irish Heaven
Posted Sep. 24, 2022 on HomeAwayBrownstown Lodge is a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty and freshness of the Irish countryside. It is a short drive from the nearest town where you can get groceries and great food. We used the Lodge for our base camp from where we explored the beauty of north County Mayo. A great location for peace and relaxation. We felt at home at the Lodge. All the amenities that you need are supplied. Beautiful sunsets over Lough Carra. We plan to visit again.

Posted Aug. 1, 2022 on HomeAwayMy Mom, myself and my 4 children rented Brownstown Lodge for 4 weeks. We saw so much of County Mayo, Galway and some of Co. Clare and Brownstown was the perfect base to explore the west of Ireland. The house was perfect Lough Carra’s crystal waters were a short walk away. A lovely house with a conscientious owner. Perfect stay.

Quiet...secluded....perfect.
Posted Jun. 9, 2022 on HomeAwayThe lodge is wonderful. It is located in a quiet, secluded location near the lake and not far from Ballinrobe. Great place to relax and use as a base to explore the West.
Property is well maintained and contains every convenience. Thomas is the perfect host. He was very responsive in communicating and provided all the information we needed for our stay.

Fantastic house brilliant location home from home. Would definitely recommend 👍
Posted Aug. 31, 2021 on HomeAwayHad a brilliant time here. Lovely house. Very well equipped. The only small thing is no outdoor furniture. Having said that the weather was brilliant- sitting outside in Ireland is not usually the norm. Otherwise cannot fault this property and would highly recommend.
