Love the pub & food was great. Rooms are nice for the price too, but the rooms could use some new pillows as ours were very old & had to fold them in half. Overall it was a good stay ☺️

The home of Red Dog. As we are travelling with a dog, we were made to feel very welcome. The pub is lively and great food. The rooms are a bit 1960's, but clean, safe and friendly staff.

Small and not so clean rooms,more like a labour camp than a hotel. Good food and pub. Friendly and helpful staff.

Thank you for your feedback, Kamran. Our cheaper rooms are 19 sqm. Our ocean view rooms are 26sqm. All rooms are cleaned after every guest with all linen washed and remade. We are the second most dusty town in WA after Port Hedland. Because the dust from the Iron Ore blows directly on to Dampier. This does make it very difficult for our cleaning staff.

Booked a buget room ($140) for a 1 night stay. Opened the door and was met with the stench of sewerage and room was full of flys. Bathroom was dirty and didn't want to touch the bed. If I could upload photos, I would. We decided to upgrade to a better room and they charged us another $60 on top of what we had already paid. The sea view room was at least cleaner but still not worth the $200 price tag. The whole property needs a massive overhall. The food was very good but hugely overpriced as they seem to cater for FIFO. When the mining companies are paying, the price is ridiculous. This included alcohol bar prices as well. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen previous reviews for this property. I definitely would not have booked it if I had

We are sorry you had this experience with your room. I wish a manager had been notified of your issue and we would have upgraded or moved to a better room at no extra charge. There is NO sewage stench as you put it anywhere in the hotel, Is it possible this smell was coming from a bin located near the accommodation building?, again we could have rectified the problem quickly had a manager been notified. As far as pricing goes. We are similarly priced to Karratha on food and beverages. We are less expensive than most accommodation in Karratha. You could have paid 500 per night in Karratha, but it sounds like you would not be happy doing that either. We make no apologies for our very reasonable pricing in comparison to the area we operate in. Every business in the Pilbara caters for workers and FIFO, They make up 80 to 90 percent of our business. Tourists make up 10 to 20 percent of our business. We pay our staff higher wages and our fixed running costs are 25% higher than that in the City. The Mermaid is the oldest venue in Karratha and Dampier. Its rooms were refurbished in 2013. It is an unpretentious yet friendly venue with good food and service. For the price our accommodation represents Good value in the Pilbara.
