Only the Essentials

We have stayed in this specific complex at Dana Point/Monarch Beach many times over the years. The VRBO's have always been very accommodating. Unfortunately, this one was not. The master bed was incredibly uncomfortable. I had to sleep on the couch the first night and for the remainder of the stay, had to remove the mattress topper and sleep on the mattress only. It was still very uncomfortable. RE: beach equipment...there were only two lawn chairs (no beach chairs), no umbrella, no cooler. After contacting owner the first day, they did bring two older chairs with broken straps. They also brought by a cooler and umbrella. Utensils were below minimalistic. There were four of us staying there and they only had eating utensils for three people, i.e., three forks, three knives, etc. The listing stated a gas BBQ. There was not one there. All the other condo's we stayed at have always had a gas grill on the porch. Finally it was very uncomfortable when we were leaving. The owners were waiting outside our door ten minutes before check out time. We were right on time to leave at 11:00am and it made us feel very pressured. It was a very disappointing stay.

Good central location, nice enough property

Overall we were pretty happy with the unit and everything about it i.e. location, condition, cleanliness, decor...EXCEPT the king bed was made of a foam topper that was too soft and squishy and quite uncomfortable/unsupportive, especially on my partner's side. After not sleeping well the first night, we checked the other room's twin beds which were the same foam toppers but they were just slightly firmer so we slept there the rest of our visit. Not ideal. As someone who reads reviews carefully before booking, thought I'd share this important info for others who care about their sleep. Strangely, no one else had left any comments about the bed so maybe it's a new addition??

Poor responses from Host

On our third night of a four-night rental, we were awakened at 1:15 am by a domestic fight between the occupants of the condo unit above us. Constant loud profane yelling and screaming profanities including the F---- word to the point of our being concerned about the safety of not only the female occupant above us but also ourselves. As a result of being concerned about getting involved in a domestic dispute as well as our safety we left the rental at 5: am the next morning - One day early. After notifying the owner of the issue and the fact that we had lost one night of our stay due to the problem and another due to our concerns about our safety ( Two nights of a four-night stay) their response was we should have called 911. Anyone staying in this VRBO rental should be aware that the hosts are not concerned about their guest's VRBO experience. Your records will show my wife and I are regular clients of VRBO and have never experienced this type of treatment by a Host. At the least, your Host should refund the night we didn't use leaving us with the night we didn't sleep as another issue. Please respond to this comment with the action VRBO will be taking to protect the rights of a long time VRBO client.

Perfection

I had to extend my stay twice and they were very accommodating. The place is very clean, nice and homey. It’s very close to the beach and to shopping.

Great stay!

I was hesitant booking this one from some past reviews, but it seems they have certainly cleaned their place up and are back on track. It was cozy and spacious at the same time which was just what our family of 4 needed for a busy weekend of family time. Gave a 5 out of 5, because it really did provide everything that it advertised and had clear communication through the papers available for reference in the condo which I felt was non-intrusive. If I could give the condo owner tips on a more luxurious experience I would maybe recommend providing shampoo, conditioner, or soap outside of the handsoap provided and maybe adding a few tupperware items to the kitchen houseware which would be especially helpful for longer rentals.

Dana Point Getaway

We enjoyed our visit. The place was nice and cozy. The location was in a gated community and convenient to all that the area had to offer. The online photos showed a gas fireplace (in use). We were unable to utilize that amenity. We were disappointed to say the least. Reason: We were told by the host that it was a safety hazard. Cleanliness on a scale of one to ten. 6 1/2. The beds were comfortable and most all the amenities were as described in the VRBO listing. It checked most all the boxes. The beach vibe and decorations were spot on. Hats off to whomever decorated the place!

Disappointing and dirty

We received a message from the host at 1:30 for our 3:00 check in saying the property would not be ready until 5:30. I stated that we were driving from PHoenix and it was my son's birthday and we would at least need to drop items off. At 3:00 housecleaner was not even there yet. We returned at 5:45 and she was there and did not finish until 6:30. Not only that, but towels were not dry, dishes were in the sink and the dishwasher (dirty) and there was black hair in the bathroom. I told the host this was unacceptable and her reply was, "she was in a hurry so you could start your vacation." We were offered a $25 gift card as reimbursement. Unfortunately, I left my bathing suit and cover up in the dryer and notified the host the day we left, just a few hours after. I was told she would ask the housekeeper. Well, she said the cleaner didn't find my brand new suit or cover up, that I wore one time and was in the dryer with other items that dried more quickly and I removed. I have rented dozens and dozens of properties and never encountered such uncleanliness and unprofesionalism. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Bliss on the Bay

Family of 4 enjoyed everything about the Unit. Had a minor AC issue on arrival and was fixed immediately by owner. Would recommend to anyone interested!
