Nice property close to the beach

Check in and check out details were not provided, so had to contact the owner and wait for a response when we arrived and did not know what was expected of us upon leaving. Code lock doors would be a convenient upgrade. I would definitely stay here again.

We wanted a home you could walk directly to the beach, had a huge grill for our family, and a stair gate so our dogs could wander the porch and enjoy being outside (our oldest dog loves laying out in the sun). We thought when we found this listing it was perfect because it checked all the boxes. When we got there though it was not as shown. There were two small charcoal grills (one we could not use) instead of the four-burner grill shown in the pictures. There is not a storage building with bikes, chairs, and beach supplies. A piece of plywood was supposed to be used as the "stair gate" but would blow down with the smallest wind so we could not use it or let our dogs on the porch. The main road was closed off at the end so you could not enter the beach and had to walk through a neighbor's yard and down a different road to get to the beach. There were also multiple safety concerns. Just two out of many was the window in the living room was busted out with plywood over it and the water heater had a rusted hole in it (along with electrical burns from shorting out). The owner was incredibly combative and aggressive when we brought our concerns to them as the listing was incredibly misleading. The owner acted unprofessional and aggressive. They even stated we should just go out and buy a stairgate and should have "prepared better". Why would we if it was listed as something that was on the property? Do not stay here.

HOSTS BEWARE! DO NOT RENT TO THESE PEOPLE!! I received a very friendly message from them on Friday stating that we love your place, it's absolutely beautiful. I got a call later that night from the guests stating they had lost the key. I had a very friendly conversation with them stating I would take care of it. Suddenly a day later I get a call from VRBO stating there is an issue with their stay. I thought they had the wrong reservation given how happy these guests appeared to be on Friday. I called Heather asking what the issues were and she claimed to know nothing about it. Very strange huh? Heather's husband called me back 10 minutes later looking for a free ride and I told him no because there was no reason for it. He got very heated and aggressive with me thus I told him I was going to have to end this call. This was the last time I heard from them given they only had one night left in their stay. I have 2 charcoal grills that cost a total of $640. That is the only thing that will work on the Island due to salt, sand and rusting the lines within weeks. The storage building was taken out from a hurricane. The chairs, bikes, etc were rusty anyway. Anyone that owns property on the island knows that bikes and chairs will rust out within months if not weeks thus it's impossible to keep these items ongoing. These were a bonus that came with the house, not a necessity for a stay. Her husband was complaining about oil refineries? WOW! those are island wide.

Ideal for what our large family needed
Publié le 10 août 2024 sur HomeAwayWe had 9 people total, including 2 “under 2,” some specific needs, and this house checked all our boxes. Also, the owner was quick to respond to all my questions, to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, enjoyed the trip and was completely satisfied with the house!
**Pros:
2 upstairs and 1 downstairs bathroom, so there was 1 accessible at all times
Pet policy allows for multiple small/medium dogs
Plenty of pots, pans, & utensils for cooking.
AC works insanely well.
Mattresses on the beds are very comfy
Direct balcony access from the downstairs bedroom and 2 of the upstairs ones.
2 grills available, 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs.
Owner is very responsive and will help you out with questions. Also pretty laid-back and doesn’t have an to-do list of outrageous check-in/check-out chores.
**Cons (these are more about the DI area in general, not the house specifically, not really things the owner can control or “fix”)
The bugs on DI are AWFUL. Everywhere. A few locals mentioned that they’re usually bad, but this year was particularly bad. Bring lots of bug spray and candles if you go to DI
The walk to the beach from the house is pretty short, but it’s a tough little trek, especially if you have littles or are carrying chairs/tents/etc in a wagon. The sand is very loose all down the path, and you have to walk over a hill both ways.
Overall, really enjoyed it, and 100% would stay at this house again!

However, that was quickly overshadowed by the moldy, tattered and busted outdoor furniture. When we entered the house there was not a feeling of cleanliness- it was immediately noticeable that floors were not swept, carpets not vacuumed, the fridge had an inch of dust on top, dust everywhere. The biggest disgusting part was the 3 foot pile of dirty laundry in the utility closet.
We reached out to the host who gave us a sob story about unrepeatable cleaners in the island. He found another local cleaner and had me explain what was wrong. Along with the general dirtiness, - dog toys and dust under every couch- most of the beds did not have a full set of sheets and many of the comforters smelled. She came to do a cleaning but ultimately refused because it was way dirtier than she had been told. She reached her breaking point when she was told to wrap the sheets around her head and smell them. If they weren’t that bad, she should put them on!!!!!
The host did not follow up to see if things were satisfactory and did not resolve the issue. Who wants to spend their vacation going rounds with a host that only gives excuses?

Multi-Generational Vacation
Publié le 17 juill. 2024 sur HomeAwayWe took our first multi-generation vacation together. My husband, our son and daughter plus their spouses, our daughter's mother-in-law and our first grandbaby. Our house accommodated our needs perfectly. My favorite feature was the farmhouse dinner table. Large enough to seat all of us to eat, AND the perfect size for playing games as a group. The deck gave us a place to gather as a group, or sit quietly reading a book or just enjoy the sites and sounds of the beach. The house was the perfect blend of space and cozy to provide us with a fantastic first multi-generational vacation.
Added bonus, we had a front row seat to the island's 4th of July Fireworks on the beach!

Publié le 1 juill. 2024 sur HomeAwayHouse okay but cleaning crew needs to be fired!! We all wondered if our bedding had been changed because of cookie or cracker crumbs found on top of one of the beds. The tablecloth was nasty. Front of appliances all needed cleaning.

A “Peace” of Paradise
Publié le 21 mai 2024 sur HomeAwayWe enjoyed our visit to Dauphin Island tremendously! Our beach house was exactly as pictured. It was a wonderful process from booking to check out. The host, Gavin, was very responsive to any inquiries I had and made our trip easy breezy. We loved the porches and cozy beds. We found everything we needed available in this home. The walk to the beach was a nice stroll and quick access. Many new memories were made and we definitely enjoyed some peaceful relaxation! We will definitely be back!
