Disappointing

Posted Mar. 21, 2024 on HomeAway
The decor was lovely. It was adequately stocked with cleaning supplies, dishes, pans and appliances. However, the first day we noticed the Keurig coffee maker didn't work. But we brought our own. The room was cold. Basically we had to cover up with blankets each and every time we were in the room. We looked for the thermostat and located it behind the door. In the bedroom. It was an old Honeywell. Unable to determine if it was in AC mode or heat. It definitely was not digital. It was very old. A hand painted sign said not to turn it off. The blower ran 24/7. A few times the blower would shut off briefly only to restart. We turned the thermostat to 80 degrees and it barely reached 70 usually 64-66 degrees. We reported this to the booking agent within the 24 hour requirement via email. We also had difficulty with operating the television system. We received one phone call from maintenence regarding the heat with the admonition that we were subject to a $100 fee if this was an emergency. Very disappointed in the response to our issues. Final frustration was the parking during Bike Week. At least 80% of the parking space was devoted to accommodating the bikers leaving those of us who had also paid struggling to park. Basically, we were forced not to leave for fear we would not have a place to park on return. It is unlikely that we would rent from this venue again.

We’re glad you found the decor to be lovely & the unit adequately stocked! That is quite strange about the Keurig as you are the 1st & only guest to state such. Also, you did not report this so we could address it though we did confirm after your departure the Keurig is working fine. We wish you would’ve followed your check-in procedures which clearly state “Upon arrival, please report any dissatisfaction (ie. maintenance/clean)” and we provide contact information for our maintenance team including a phone number yet you contacted someone else. Unfortunately, you did not follow the check-in procedures and emailed bookings although an email address & phone number for maintenance is provided & the next line states “bookings can't assist/respond to any maintenance items during your stay.” There is only a charge for those that abuse the after-hours emergency line for non-emergencies which is stated in your procedures no one called you to say this. Before traveling to a location we highly recommend researching the local events & peak times. Bike week is one of the busiest times in Daytona Beach. The building designates spots for motorcycles during this peak time & you were not forced to stay. Parking is open to vehicles with a parking permit only & you were provided with 2 parking permits. We hope you understand.

Beach

Posted Jan. 21, 2024 on HomeAway
It was really adorable place, love the decor. The pool and lower level looked like construction or being updated at the time. We came to visit with my friends daughter at Emory College, which isn't far. We shopped lots of shops and walked around area. The beach was a beautiful white sand, missing it already.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time exploring the area and enjoying the beach! Visiting Emory College and spending time with friends must have been a memorable experience. It's great to hear that despite the ongoing repairs post hurricanes which we do disclose at the very top of our property description, you still found the place adorable and enjoyed the lovely decor. Thank you for being our guest & for your 5-star review!

Building is under construction. Pool, bar, Internet and other amenities do not work.

The amenities are currently closed as they are being repaired from back-to-back hurricanes. We have this information disclosed at the very top of our property description which has been there since late 2022 and updated accordingly as the information is evolving. We're sorry this information was overlooked by you prior to booking. Best wishes.

Ok but there are better

Posted Jul. 30, 2022 on HomeAway
We have stayed at various rooms at the Hawaiian inn over the past several years. Some have been more expensive than this one and some less. Overall this room was probably our least favorite. The location on the second floor just feet away from the stairwell was convenient but there are a few things to be aware of when you stay. The bedroom for this unit has a window in the hallway where all of the traffic happens (all night long). They put blinds up but the fluorescent lights right outside the window creeps in and brightens the room all night. On the first day, maintenance for the unit was emailed about the restroom sink that would not drain. The reply was that that is common in multi dwelling properties. This might be true but we have stayed in a lot of multi family dwellings and have not seen this before. We ended up having to brush teeth, shave in the kitchen sink. Additionally this unit did not contain many of the staples that other rentals have available. For instance there were no trash bags, dish cloths, or hand soap. Not a huge problem If you are expecting it because there is a grocery store just a few blocks away. The one light (lamp) in the living room is right next to an outlet that doesn’t work (or maybe there is a hidden switch that we couldn’t t find). The final and most disturbing issue was the musty smell in the unit. Not sure but it might be mold smell since all of the A/c vents are covered with either clumps of dirt or mold.

Perhaps you have stayed in studios at this building, but this rare 1-bedroom condo is laid out where the bedroom is by the front so you can have ocean views from the private balcony. We wish we had control over the traffic of others which can occur anywhere in the building. We thank you for emailing our maintenance team, however within our immediate response we informed you that this could occur in multi-dwelling units which is the case and we asked you in that same email if it was still occurring, however we never heard back from you at all. If it did keep occurring, why would you not simply respond to the email “yes it is” so we could assist, instead you chose to ignore our response and instead you chose to brush & shave in the kitchen sink. We are truly baffled that you could quote part of our response in your review, but it was not important enough to answer us if it was still occurring vs a one-time occurrence that is common in the building. Just as it is stated within your check-in & checkout procedures (the same procedures you need to enter the unit), the cleaners provide the initial basics to start your stay which includes trash bags and any other items you have to purchase, we’re sorry you missed that. We hope you understand & we wish you all the best.

As described, this unit was great and just what we wanted. The pictures were accurate and showed the unit very nicely. We had a great stay and would love to stay here again.—- Downside was the parking permits were not left in the unit. I was advised to write a note for my windshield which I did and we did not have any problems. We did not hear back from the message I sent about the parking permit after our Checkin.

That’s wonderful the unit was just as described & exactly what you wanted! Though it is sufficient to use the paper as instructed by our bookings department who is remote, in the future please contact the correct department as per your check-in & checkout procedures who is on grounds regarding parking permits before checking out and they would gladly provide them. We’re happy you had a great stay & we’d love to have you back. Thank you for your 5 star review!
