First, the neighborhood is teeming with families & kids. We felt very safe taking walks & in general. First, I had a learning experience re A/C. Apparently, this house does NOT have A/C. It has a "cooling system". When you close your bedroom door there is no air circulation. There are 2 vents in the upstairs hallway ceiling that shoots out cold air to spread to the house & basement. That is the ONLY source of cooling! At night, if you close your door there is NO air circulation; it will is hot & stuffy overnight because no cold air comes out of the vents. When we arrived. The 'cooling system' had been turned off for a couple days due to lack of renters. It was 87 degrees in the house. We were very uncomfortable and it ruined our first day at the house as we felt heat sickness. We spoke and texted with the manager who was responsive but could not help. The temp in the house was unacceptable for 24 hours. This is a VERY old house with NO AC. Be advised. There is a trashy, eye-sore boat on the side of the house that looks like it is from the 70s, just rotting and gathering leaves. There is a wooden shack in the back yard about ready to collapse. The weeds in the back yard are 4 ft tall. But those things didn't ruin our stay. The showers were "ok". They have shower heads where the only strong stream is in the middle. The shower in the basement is OK for short people, but if you are 6 ft you have to squat down to rinse your hair. The towels are thin, ragged and super old. The towels in the basement shower had actual paint stains and/or were literally shredded. The downstairs sheets, which were supposed to be laundered, didnt small fresh and had lots and lots of hair, so we had to strip all the beds and wash the sheets. The basement rug is ancient. I am guessing maybe from the 70s. The basement ceiling tiles are removed and there are holes in the walls, and broken glass bottles and trash in the window wells, which is all you can see from the basement windows. The kitchen is remodeled and functional. Although they had no glasses, so had to buy solo cups. The silverware was dirty. I had to put all the plates & silverware through the dishwasher. They supplied an old dish sponge which also had to be run through the dishwasher. The 2 upstairs bedrooms are OK for kids as the beds are tiny. The master, which is upstairs, was sufficient. There is a for sale sign out front and it seems like it needs a lot of cleanup to match the neighborhood standards.
