Freezing in winter
Publié le 7 sept. 2018 sur HotelsThe house is massive, and would be great for families to stay in the summer. It's been renovated by the owner, who was next door renovating a second house during our stay.
Derby Digs lacks character and warmth, painted stark white, decorated with cheap looking prints on the walls and single light bulbs in the fixtures on the high ceilings. There are no lamps, so if you're sitting around chatting in the evenings you'll be under the full fluro lights.
Our dissatisfaction was with the lack of heating. There are no electric blankets or heaters, only the wood fire. Thankfully, wood was kindly provided. The first night i slept on the lounge in front of the fire, as temperatures were freezing and the bedrooms were like ice boxes. I spoke with the owner who said there were heaters in the closet (which is locked to guests), and he said instructions on where to find heaters was in the info booklet on the kitchen table (which there were not). When we arrived back on day 2, the owner had produced 1 heater in 1 bedroom, and had the fire going. The magical closet of heaters was still locked.
Unfortunately my friends staying in the other rooms suffered a night of freezing temperatures.
The kitchen is full of ants. The coffee pod machine that is mentioned as a selling point in the description was full of dirty empty pods and growing mould. There is no long life milk to go with it, byo.
There is no wifi, (no 3G or 4G internet either) no optus phone reception, no landline.

Dear Elizabeth
Your review is very unfair! You arrived after 9pm on the first night after driving from Hobart to Derby, a 4+ hour drive and you seemed totally distressed. I welcomed you and carried your bag to the Cottage. I then made a fire for you and asked if you knew how to grow the fire for maximum warmth - you said yes. You did not use the fan on the side of the wood heater to distribute warm air through the cottage and there is a booklet on the dining table which explains how to do this. Your booking was for 1 and yet you had 2 others stay in the Cottage, which you were not charged for! On the second night when you and your unpaid guests were out at a concert, I again made a fire for you and the Cottage was very warm. Our cleaner takes great pride in doing a full clean after guests leave and your comments in regards to the coffee pod machine are hard to believe. Our web site clearly states that there is no wi-fi and we cannot control the fact that Optus has no reception in the town.
I get the strong impression that no matter what we did you would not have been happy.

Pour : Location, spacious living areas, cosy wood fire.
Lovely spacious property that provided a fantastic base for families and groups to explore the Derby mountain bike trails. Hosts were easy to communicate with and we look forward to our next stay.
