Scion Hill Gate Lodge
We had a lovely stay, the lodge is lovely and the standard of accommodation was very high. It was a lovely place to return to after a busy day exploring. The location of the lodge was more remote than expected but we soon got used to the rural location - the roads were narrow but luckily we had access to a good Sat Nav and always found our way about. We managed to see a lot of Northern Ireland and ventured down to Dublin for the day.

spacious, peaceful, stylish property in a beautiful rural setting
We really loved the gate lodge - very spacious and comfortable. It has the most beautiful rural views but is also well located close to local towns and villages. We'd thoroughly recommend it.

Absolutely our favorite VRBO in Ireland
We used this comfortable, well appointed, gate house as our home base for our tour of Northern Ireland. It was absolutely perfect and even had a dryer, making it possible for us to refresh for the second week of our journey. The views were outstanding, the local villages had wonderful restaurants, grocery’s and quaint Irish pubs. If you choose to stay here you will not regret it; I promise.

The Perfect Holiday Cottage
The cottage itself was everything we had hoped for … fabulous accommodation, clean, peaceful and well maintained. It was an excellent location for easy access to all parts of the country’s tourist attractions and places of interest. We would highly recommend this cottage and location as the perfect base.

Awesome
If someone is looking to stay in northern Ireland, I would highly recommend this place. Esther, our host has created an absolutely wonderful home-away-from-home. The surrounding area is stunning. The Halfway House restaurant is a short distance away, the food and the service there is also five star. When we return this is where we will stay.

A really comfortable cottage of character in a peaceful location, with nice outlook over surrounding countryside. Our host Esther went out of her way to help us after we suffered a seroius health problem during our stay.

We enjoyed our stay at Scion Lodge. Location was peaceful with beautiful views of the countryside.
Ester was friendly and arrival process was easy. Only criticism is that we found the kitchen a little lacking in cooking utensils ( baking trays etc). Otherwise accommodation was very roomy and well equipped.

Scion Lodge
Scion Lodge was a perfect location for a short break. In fact Scion Lodge exceeded our expectations. The house is very well presented and is tuacked away off a quiet leafy country lane. It was a lovely quiet location. There was really nothing more that we could ask for. Esther, the property owner, popped up one morning to introduce herself as well and pass on some good advice re local attractions etc. Also when we arrived at the property Esther had already left some food supplies in the kitchen for us which was a welcome and very nice touch indeed. The house was very clean and extremely well presented. It was perfect for us as a couple but could easlily cater for 4 people. The wifi connection was also very good. There is a picnic table outside as well which we availed off for breakfast. All in all it was a superb house and we are definitely considering a return visit for a longer period.

Weekend trip
The gate lodge is a lovely property with everything you need to enjoy your visit to this part of County Down. Check in and check out was very straightforward and Esther was on hand if needed. We couldn’t recommend this property highly enough and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially the peat fuelled fire in the lounge.

Very comfortable house
This house has a lovely kitchen and beautiful Irish art throughout. The bedrooms and bathrooms are warm and comfortable however it is not perfectly clean. The linens are clean but the other surfaces and floors leave quite a bit to be desired. However we would be happy to rebook it as it is well appointed and very cozy. Thank you for the extra detail of tape so we could wrap some presents.

The house is clean and well equipped with spacious modern bedrooms and kitchen and a cosy sitting room. Well away from noise but within easy reach, by car, of the nearby towns, such as Hillsborough, Downpatrick, Bambridge and more. Would love to come back.

Great Location; Great Cottage!
We stayed in this beautiful gatehouse in July 2018, when it was very hot, so the garden with shady areas, and the gorgeous, enormous, cool bedrooms were very welcome. The rest of the accommodation was also lovely; nicely decorated, clean and well equipped. Esther, the owner who lives nearby, was kind and very helpul but inobtrusive, which I think is what most holiday makers want from a host. The location of this cottage was ideal for us. It's 10 miles from Belfast and it was easy to access all the main roads to reach anywhere in Northern Ireland. We took our own car, and a car is essential as the location is very rural. We stayed 10 days and enjoyed every minute. The scenery, tourist sites, and mostly the people, were fabulous, and we'll definitely return, both to Northern Ireland and this fantastic cottage.

Fabulous Country Setting
During our 17 day tour of Ireland we stayed in 5 different homes. We voted this home as the nicest. All of the homes had something special about them. However, this home was Irish living in the purest sense. The home was immaculate! Nicely equipped kitchen, comfy beds and furniture. We especially liked the heavy curtains in the bedrooms that kept the room dark. We found that the sun was rising at around 4:45a and it brightened things up quite a bit. The curtains did their job well, since we had no intentions of rising at that hour. The Master bedroom was spacious. The king size bed was very comfortable. The best part was the cool walk-in shower in the master bath. You just have to see for yourself to know what I'm talking about. We liked the way the house was laid out. Kitchen, living room to the left of entry and bedrooms, baths to the right. Plenty of windows! Best of all for the city dwellers there is a field right next to the house that contains sheep and cows. Not a few but many. Country living at it's finest without all the work that farmers have to put in on a daily basis. All you have to do is enjoy the wonderful landscapes and the fresh air. If you are looking for a great escape from the big city hustle and bustle, this is your place. Don't think you'll be disappointed. Sorry, forgot to mention, make sure you get your groceries before heading in so you won't have to be bothered with it later. Then, you will have all you need for maximum enjoyment.
