Had a lovely 2 night stay here. Absolutely amazing view of the sea from my room, couldn’t get enough of waking up to it. Definitely booking The Halcyon again when I’m back in Eastbourne. Thanks to all the staff for being so amazing and helpful! Lots of love and best wishes.

The young guy acting front desk needs to seriously Buck up his presentation skills and front desk manner. Was like being served by a shell suit prat. Tv didn’t work, which seemed to be a known issue, and he huffed and puffed and tutted as he lamely attempted to sort it. Knowing he couldn’t. I got a refund and left at 9.30pm. Rather risking find somewhere else to stay. Which I did - the Lansdowne. Much much better and they did me a price £15 higher and well worth it. You prat

This hotel is on a beautiful street facing the English Channel. We booked there intending to complete The 7 Sisters Walk, originating in nearby Seaford. Our plans changed a bit...we walked from the hotel toward the cliffs(did not complete the full trail). Views from the cliffs are breathtaking and were well worth our side-trip from London. However, I don't think we would have enjoyed staying at The Halcyon more than a single night. It was not easy lugging our bags up several flights of stairs. While the sea views from our rooms were incredible, those are about the only sights that resembled the photos from the hotel's website. Both of our rooms were tired and worn. The mattresses were fair, but the pillows were flat and uncomfortable. The bathroom in one room had a strong odor of mustiness and the shower barely drained. Even with the very low water pressure and taking a quick shower, I was standing in 2 inches of water by the time my shower ended. My daughter needed to wait half an hour before she could shower, or we would have risked an overflow. *There were no problems with the bathroom in my older daughters' room. The breakfast was included in the price of the hotel, so I can't complain much. Had I paid anything for it, though, I would have been very disappointed. There were a few pieces of fresh fruit, a couple boiled eggs, some yogurts, cheap juices, and stale cereal. The coffee was instant. Tea was available, but I didn't have any. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

Our room needs refurbishments

The en-suite room on the top floors has a few flaws. First of all the sea view is from a small window above the bed, which defeats the purpose of paying premium for a sea view. The bathroom is quite old and the worst thing was probably the room door which was moving/slamming permanently when guests from the sae floor were coming in/out of their flat, making a noise strong enough to wake up anyone from sleep. After being woken up a few times in the night, we had to fit a spoon between the door and the frame to stop it from moving and slaming. Location is good.

Bed sheets looked not changed and stained, double mattress was terrible, sink was blocked, area between sink and wall clearly not cleaned for weeks. The so called breakfast was non existent: some old croisants reheated in an oven, some cold milk and cereal that about sums it all....ooo no , some boiled egs as well. Very dissapointed after paying £147 for a night for the so called :" triple room with sea view". Got fooled by the positive reviews (only 45 on expedia at the time of booking) which I cannot understand how they can be genuine after our experience. Definately not worh 147/ night..... maybe under £50.....so disapointing .
